How we grade them
| 3.2GPAListberryVery good | 2.8GPAMinimaListGood | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | APremium is $0.99 a month, about a quarter of what a typical to-do app charges. Funny detail: the yearly plan is $11.99, which is a few cents more than twelve months of monthly. So just pay monthly. | BPremium is $2.99 a month, or $5.99 as a lifetime purchase, which is cheap. But the listing never says what Premium adds, so we can't call it a bargain. Its own description quotes $0.99 a month, which doesn't match the purchase list either. |
| Free plan and trial | BFree has no ads and all the core bits, but it caps you at 12 tasks a day and 3 PDF exports. Dragging tasks into your own order, night mode and carrying unfinished tasks to tomorrow are all Premium. | BFree to download and use, with no trial clock. But neither the vendor's site nor the App Store listing says which features are held back for Premium, so we can't say how far free goes. |
| Features | BA list for each day on a calendar, with alerts, repeats, bold text and highlighter colours. Good basics. But nothing syncs: there's no account and no cloud, so your lists stay on the one phone. | BColour-coded lists, sub-tasks, memos, and reminders by time or location that can repeat and snooze themselves up to three times. Write a time into a task and it becomes the reminder. There's a focus timer and list sharing by link. Pared back on purpose. |
| Ease of use | A4.8 from about 300 App Store ratings. There's no account to create. Open it, pick a day, write the list. If you've used a paper planner you already know how it works. | BWe have no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. It's a simple list app, with widgets and Siri for adding things. One quirk: a link to a shared list has to be opened in Safari. |
| Platforms and integrations | CiPhone and Android phones, and that's it. No web or desktop app, and no integrations listed. Entries are stored on the device, so the two phone versions don't talk to each other either. | CiPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, plus Macs with an M1 chip or later, where it runs as the iPad app. It syncs with Apple Calendar and works with Siri. No Android, Windows or web version is listed. |
| Best for | a paper-style to-do list for each day | a pared-back list with reminders on iPhone |

Key features
Listberry
- A to-do list for each day
- Tasks are written against a date on the calendar, with room to plan the days, weeks and months ahead. A setting opens the app in Month view by default.
- Crossing tasks off
- A finished task is crossed out by hand, as on paper, and remains on the day's list so it can still be read later.
- Alerts, events and repeating tasks
- Tasks can carry reminders and repeat on a schedule, and the listing says chores are told apart from events and appointments.
- Bold, highlights and color grouping
- Important tasks can be set in bold or marked with a highlighter color. Premium can group tasks by color in place of manual ordering.
- Automatic carry-over
- A Premium setting moves tasks that were not crossed off to the next day's list automatically.
- PDF export
- All entries can be exported as a PDF for safekeeping or printing. The free version allows 3 exports and Premium removes the limit.
MinimaList
- Colored lists and custom themes
- Separate lists serve different purposes and can be color-coded. The background, font style and size, and notification sounds can all be changed.
- Reminders
- Reminders can be based on a time or a location and can repeat. A reminder can be set to snooze itself automatically up to three times.
- Smart input
- A time written inside a task phrase is detected automatically and set as the task's reminder. Tasks also take a memo and sub-tasks.
- Focus Timer
- A built-in timer offers Pomodoro, countdown and count-up modes with sound effects.
- Widgets and Siri
- Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show lists, tasks can be created and completed from the Today widget, and Siri can add a reminder to MinimaList.
- Sync, sharing and calendar
- Lists sync across iPhone, iPad and Mac, a list can be shared with other people through a link, and tasks can sync with Apple Calendar.
