Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 27 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade

AgenToDo is a Getting Things Done task manager for Mac from MacPaw. Alongside an inbox, projects, nested tags and eleven built-in views, it has a command bar that takes a request in plain language and previews every change for approval before anything is applied. The app itself is free and syncs through iCloud, while the AI features run on Setapp AI credits.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about AgenToDo, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The AI is a command bar: type "move everything from today to Friday" and it shows each change before making it.
From our report card of AgenToDo
  1. 1

Best for GTD on a Mac, with AI you can check first

AgenToDo is a Getting Things Done manager for the Mac, free unless you want the AI.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $8.99 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $8.99 per month, billed yearly ($107.88), for Setapp's Mac plan.

  3. 3

  5. 5

    AI command bar

A request typed or spoken in plain language becomes a set of proposed changes shown as a preview. Nothing is applied until it is approved, and one sentence can carry several changes.

  6. 6

    GTD structure and eleven views

Inbox, Today, Forecast, Flagged, Waiting On, Review and five more built-in views, with sequential, parallel and single-action projects, folders and nested tags.

  7. 7

Events from the Mac's calendars appear beside tasks in day, week and month views. Tasks can be dragged onto time slots, and a commitment meter shows when a day is overbooked.

The report card

Best for GTD on a Mac, with AI you can check first

AgenToDo is a Getting Things Done manager for the Mac, free unless you want the AI. The AI is a command bar: type "move everything from today to Friday" and it shows each change before making it. But it runs only on macOS 26 with Apple silicon, there's no iPhone app yet, and the AI spends Setapp credits, so it needs a Setapp plan from $8.99 a month billed yearly.

ToolGPA report cardAgenToDoGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCThe task manager itself costs nothing. But the AI has one route and it's a dear one: a Setapp membership at $8.99 a month billed yearly ($107.88), or $14.99 month to month, and $8.99 is where the dearest tenth of to-do apps starts. Free app, expensive extra, so it lands in the middle.
Free plan and trialAFree outright: all eleven views, the calendar, widgets, the command-line tool, iCloud sync and shared projects, with no account needed. Only the AI costs money.
FeaturesBIt does the whole job: Inbox, Forecast, Waiting On and Review, sequential and parallel projects, nested tags, tasks dragged onto calendar slots, shared projects. The one thing rivals don't have, the AI bar, costs extra.
Ease of useCNo App Store rating on record. And it's a GTD system with eleven views, three kinds of project and nested tags, built on OmniFocus's keyboard habits. That's a few evenings of learning if GTD is new to you.
Platforms and integrationsDOne operating system, and a recent one: macOS 26 on Apple silicon. No iPhone, iPad, Windows, Android or web version on the vendor's site. Your tasks stay at your desk.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who AgenToDo is for

  • Fits if you follow Getting Things Done on a Mac and want the weekly review built in
  • Works for people coming from OmniFocus, since it borrows the same keyboard habits

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want your tasks on your phone, because no iPhone or Android app is listed; one is only in testing
  • Not for you if your Mac is Intel or older than macOS 26, as it won't run
  • Pricey if you want the AI, since that means a Setapp plan from $8.99 a month billed yearly, or $14.99 monthly
  • Watch out: Setapp is the only download route, and yearly Setapp Mac gives 300 AI credits a month; extras cost from $17.99
  • Not for you if GTD is new and you want to start fast, with eleven views, three kinds of project and nested tags to learn

Good to know

Good for

  • Mac users who follow Getting Things Done and want a guided weekly review
  • People who would rather describe a change in a sentence than click through menus
  • People moving from OmniFocus, whose keyboard model the app borrows
  • Anyone who wants tasks kept in their own iCloud and off the vendor's servers

Worth knowing

  • Mac only: the site requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) on Apple silicon and says there is no Windows, Android or web version.
  • The AI features spend Setapp AI credits. Setapp plans include a monthly allowance, and extra credits are a monthly add-on from $17.99 for 15,000.
  • The site's only download route is Setapp, MacPaw's own app store, and the AI features need a Setapp account.
  • No iPhone or iPad app is listed on the vendor's site; in an August 2026 reply on its Setapp listing the developer said one was in testing.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of AgenToDo you could make: tasks, natural-language input, calendar and time blocking. What surrounds it you could not. The 6 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 76 of the 123 other to-do list apps grade higher. It costs $107.88 a year.

What you could make

  • Tasks, natural-language input, calendar and time blocking: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A real app for macOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, iCloud, Apple Calendar and Siri among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets, Siri and Shortcuts.
  • Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. AgenToDo’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
