Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.0

GPA, above 64 of the 79 other project management tools we grade

Airtable is a relational database platform that teams use to build their own trackers, workflows and internal apps without code. Records can be shown in grid, kanban, calendar, gallery, timeline and Gantt views, and custom interfaces and automations sit on top of the same data. AI features, including the Omni app builder, draw on a monthly credit allowance that varies by plan.

To get you started, here are 10 things to know about Airtable, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for building your own tracker from a database

You design it yourself, so there's work before there's anything to tick off.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $20 a month for each person

As its pricing page puts it: $20 per seat / month, billed annually ($24 billed monthly).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

1,000 records and 1 GB of attachments per base, up to 5 editors, 500 AI credits per editor a month and 2 weeks of revision history.

  4. 4

    It runs on 5 platforms

Web, macOS, Windows, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Relational bases

Data lives in bases of linked tables. Record limits per base rise from 1,000 on Free to 50,000 on Team and 125,000 on Business.

  6. 6

    Eight view types

A table can be shown as a grid, form, calendar, gallery, kanban, timeline, list or Gantt view. Timeline and Gantt views need the Team plan.

  7. 7

    Interfaces

Custom interfaces can be built from base data, giving each team a tailored app on top of the same records.

  8. 8

    Refunds: no set window

The terms say it in capitals: cancel and you do not get back any part of what you paid for the term you are in. What you do get is a clean exit.

  9. 9

    A 3.0 GPA, above 64 of 79

That is against the other project management tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  10. 10

    Keep it

To replace Airtable you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for building your own tracker from a database

Airtable is a database you shape into your own tracker, with kanban, calendar and gallery views over the same records and apps you build on top. You design it yourself, so there's work before there's anything to tick off. Team is $20 a seat a month billed annually, in the dearest tenth here, the free plan stops at 1,000 records per base, and two-way sync needs Business at $45.

ToolGPA report cardAirtableGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDTeam is $20 a seat a month billed annually, or $24 monthly, and the dearest tenth of this category starts at exactly $20 against an $8 middle. Business, where two-way sync and the admin panel live, is $45 a seat.
Free plan and trialCFree covers up to 5 editors with 500 AI credits each, then the caps show up: 1,000 records and 1 GB of attachments per base, 2 weeks of revision history, and no timeline or Gantt view at all.
FeaturesAIt covers the whole job, and what the others here haven't got is the database underneath: linked tables shown as grid, form, calendar, gallery, kanban, timeline, list or Gantt, with custom interfaces built on top so each team gets its own app. Portals and Omni are its own too.
Ease of useA4.8 from about 25,000 App Store ratings, the top band. Be clear what you're signing up for, mind: you're designing your own tracker here, not opening a ready-made one, so there's work before there's anything to tick off.
Platforms and integrationsAWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, with Slack, Google Drive, Salesforce, Jira, Zendesk, GitHub, Box and Tableau among the integrations and a public API for the rest.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

  • Not for you if you want a project tool that's ready to go, as you build this one yourself
  • Watch out: record caps apply per base on paid plans too, 50,000 on Team and 125,000 on Business

Relational database platform for building team workflows and apps. Here is what it does, as its own site describes it, and what it covers: public API, AI features, databases, calendar, kanban boards, Gantt & timelines, workflow automation.

Relational bases
Data lives in bases of linked tables. Record limits per base rise from 1,000 on Free to 50,000 on Team and 125,000 on Business.
Eight view types
A table can be shown as a grid, form, calendar, gallery, kanban, timeline, list or Gantt view. Timeline and Gantt views need the Team plan.
Interfaces
Custom interfaces can be built from base data, giving each team a tailored app on top of the same records.
Automations and sync
Automations handle repetitive steps inside a base. Two-way sync with outside tools is included from the Business plan.
Omni and field agents
Omni builds apps from a plain-language description and field agents run AI across records. Both draw on monthly AI credits: 500 per editor on Free and 15,000 per seat on Team.
Portals
Portals let guest users from outside the organization collaborate on selected data.

64/79

Other project management tools it is graded above

Airtable's GPA of 3.0 is higher than 64 of the 79 other project management tools we grade, and level with 8.

It stands best on features (A, above 75 of 79) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $20 a month for each person, against a middle price of $8 for the category: 67 of the 74 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 4.0 out of 4, and no tool on the category's chart scores higher without costing more.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Airtable you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 64 of the 79 other project management tools we grade. It costs $240 a year.

What you could make

  • Kanban boards, calendar and Gantt & timelines: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • Databases with views, filters and links between them.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features A, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Airtable’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

Part 05 · Refunds

Getting your money back, getting out, and getting help

What happens once you have paid: whether you can get your money back, how to leave, and how to reach a person when something goes wrong. Each is graded from Airtable’s own terms and help pages.

Refunds and cancelling

CGrade

Ordinary · checked Oct 18, 2026

The terms say it in capitals: cancel and you do not get back any part of what you paid for the term you are in. What you do get is a clean exit. You downgrade the workspace yourself in the account settings, you keep the paid features until the billing cycle ends, and moving to the Free plan does not delete a single record. No refunds plus an easy door out is the ordinary deal, so it is a C.

Refund window
No set window
How you cancel
Yourself, in settings
Getting your money back

The terms say all payments are non-refundable and non-transferable except as the terms themselves provide, and that cancelling gets you back no portion of the fees paid for the current term unless the law requires it. Two exceptions are written in: Airtable refunds the unused part pro rata if it cancels your plan, and buyers in the EU or Turkey who cancel within 14 days of purchase can claim the payment back.

Stated on airtable.com
How to cancel Airtable

Airtable bills by workspace, so you downgrade the workspace to the Free plan rather than cancelling an account-wide subscription. A Team workspace is downgraded from the account page under Workspace settings. A self-serve Business plan is downgraded from the admin panel, which also permanently deletes the organisation. Sales-led Business and Enterprise Scale plans go through the sales contact instead.

  1. Open your Airtable account page
  2. Under Workspace settings, select the workspace you want to downgrade
  3. Click Change or cancel plan
  4. Review the listed changes on the confirmation screen, then click Continue cancellation
  5. Complete the feedback survey if you are prompted for one
Stated on support.airtable.com
What you keep afterwards

The downgrade takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle, and the paid features last until then. Moving to the Free plan deletes no data: bases, tables, records and views stay. What changes are the limits, so a base over them accepts no new records or attachments and some features turn read-only. Revision history and snapshots shrink to two weeks, and snapshots outside that window are gone for good.

Stated on support.airtable.com
Renewals

The terms say every subscription plan renews automatically for a term the same length as the last one, at the price applying on the renewal date, and that you must cancel before the term ends through the account settings page to stop it. No reminder before a renewal is mentioned. A help article confirms there is no way to schedule an automatic downgrade for a future date.

Stated on airtable.com

In your favour

  • You downgrade the workspace yourself from the account page, in five clicks, with nobody to email.
  • Paid features run to the end of the cycle you already paid for, not to the day you cancel.
  • Dropping to the Free plan deletes nothing: every base, table, record and view is still there.
  • If Airtable ends your plan rather than you, the terms promise the unused part back pro rata.

Watch out for

  • The terms are in capitals about it: cancel and no part of the current term comes back.
  • Plans renew by themselves at whatever the price is then, and no reminder is promised.
  • A base over the Free plan's limits goes read-only in places until you are back under them.
  • Downgrading a self-serve Business plan also deletes the organisation, and that cannot be undone.

Customer support

BGrade

Good · checked Oct 18, 2026

Airtable is upfront that there is no live help and no phone line. You ask an AI bot, and when it cannot cope it takes your details and opens an email case. That is a thin front door, but the company does put a number on the wait: one to two business days, for everyone, free accounts included. A written reply time with no live channel is a B, and the help centre and community are both good.

Ways to get help

  • Email

Once the bot has opened a case, Airtable's support team replies by email, and you reply to the same thread to add context or talk to an agent. The article says support is primarily over email.

    Stated on support.airtable.com
  • Contact form or ticket

An AI help bot in the help centre and inside the product. It answers questions itself, and where it cannot it collects your details and passes them to the support team by email as a support case. You need a free account to reach it.

    Stated on support.airtable.com
  • Help inside the app

The question-mark icon on the Airtable home screen opens Message support, and a second one in any base or interface opens the in-product help centre with guides, videos and documentation.

    Stated on support.airtable.com
  • Help centre

Product and support documentation, FAQs, troubleshooting guides and feature overviews, open without signing in, alongside a status page, an academy and written guides.

    Stated on support.airtable.com
  • Community or forum

A public Airtable Community forum where users ask questions, answer each other and share workflows they have built.

    Stated on community.airtable.com

Not listed on Airtable’s pages: live chat, phone.

When people answer

Airtable says it does not provide live support, and that its automated bot answers 24 hours a day, every day. Anything the bot cannot handle goes to the support team by email. The only closures named are Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Stated on support.airtable.com
How fast it says it replies

Airtable says its team typically responds within one to two business days, and repeats the same figure for cases the bot passes on. The contacting article is marked as applying to all plan types, and names no faster target for any of them.

Stated on support.airtable.com
What depends on your plan

The article on contacting Airtable is marked for all plan types and describes one route for everybody, with no priority queue or faster target named for paid plans. Its only plan-related caveat is that the support team will not discuss account or billing matters with anyone who is not a workspace Owner.

Stated on support.airtable.com

In your favour

  • Airtable states a reply time of one to two business days, which many of its rivals never do.
  • Free accounts get the same route as paying ones, and the bot answers at any hour.
  • The help centre is thorough on billing, downgrading and deleting an account.
  • A case arrives as an email thread you can reply to, so nothing is trapped in a widget.

Watch out for

  • There is no phone support and no live chat with a person. Airtable says so plainly.
  • The only way in is the AI bot, and it decides when to hand you to the support team.
  • You cannot contact support at all without creating an account first.
  • Billing questions are only answered for workspace Owners, so ask the right person to write in.

What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: Airtable's terms of service, its help articles on contacting Airtable, on creating, cancelling and deleting an account, on upgrading and downgrading a workspace plan and on the plans themselves, plus the pricing page and the public community. The pricing table marks support with icons our reader could not read. Nobody here cancelled a plan or contacted its support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA. How we grade refunds and support.
