Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 20 of the 69 other writing tools we grade
Antidote is writing assistance software from the Quebec company Druide informatique that combines a grammar and style corrector with dictionaries and language guides for English and French. Individuals buy it as Antidote+, an annual subscription covering three applications: Antidote 12 for Windows and Mac, Antidote Web in a browser, and Antidote Mobile for iPhone and iPad. Connectors link the corrector to word processors, mail clients, browsers and other software.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Antidote, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Once it's wired in, fixes land in the original document.
- 1
Best for grammar checking in English and French
But it's one yearly bill in Canadian dollars with no monthly option or refunds, both languages cost more, and there's no Android app.
- 2
What it costs
Paid plans start at CA$59.95 for the first year, then CA$48 per year (Antidote+ Personal).
- 3
You can try it first
30-day free trial of Antidote+ with all three applications: Antidote 12, Antidote Web and Antidote Mobile.
- 4
It runs on 4 platforms
Web, macOS, Windows and iOS, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Corrector
Flags spelling, grammar and typography errors with a tooltip explaining each one, and its filters pick out repetition and non-inclusive wording.
- 6
Reformulation
A subscription-only mode that uses generative AI trained by Druide's linguists to rewrite, retouch, soften or shorten a passage or a segment of it.
- 7
Dictionaries
Definitions link on to synonyms, antonyms, word combinations, conjugations and word families, with audio pronunciation for subscribers.
- 8

The report card
Best for grammar checking in English and French
Antidote is a grammar checker for English and French with dictionaries and language guides built in, and it explains why each error is wrong. CA$59.95 covers your first year on Windows, Mac, the web and iPhone. But it's one yearly bill in Canadian dollars with no monthly option or refunds, both languages cost more, and there's no Android app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Antidote+ Personal is CA$59.95 for the first year and CA$48 a year after, which is about CA$4 a month for all three apps. That's inside the cheaper quarter of this category, where the line is $5.00 a month. One language only at that price, and both costs CA$89.95. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free version at all. What you get is a 30-day trial of Antidote+ with all three apps, and the listing doesn't say a card is needed. After that it's the yearly subscription or nothing, and store purchases aren't refundable. |
| Features | C | A corrector that explains every error, dictionaries with synonyms and conjugations, 578 language guides, AI reformulation and an email check that catches a missing attachment. The listing names the gap, though: Antidote Mobile has no corrector of its own, so the phone app can't do the main job. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record, and it isn't quite install-and-go: to get corrections inside Word, Outlook, Gmail or Google Docs you install the separate Connectix utility and hook up each application. Once it's wired in, fixes land in the original document. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Windows, Mac, a browser app and iPhone and iPad, with connectors to more than 90 applications, Word, Outlook, Google Docs and Gmail among them. No native Android app though, so it misses the A: Android and Linux users are stuck in Antidote Web. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Antidote is for
- Fits if you write in both English and French and want one corrector for the two
- Works for families, since one subscription covers 5 people under the same roof
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you'd rather pay monthly, as it's one yearly bill and store purchases aren't refundable
- Not for you if you write on an Android phone, where it's Antidote Web in a browser and nothing else
- Pricey if you need both languages, at CA$89.95 against CA$59.95 for one
- Watch out: Antidote Mobile has no corrector of its own, and Word or Gmail need the separate Connectix utility
- Watch out: prices are in Canadian dollars, plus taxes where they apply
Good to know
Good for
- People who write in both English and French
- Editors and translators who want explanations with each correction
- Families: one subscription covers five users
- Organizations that need a corrector installed without external servers
Worth knowing
- Druide's store lists prices in Canadian dollars, plus taxes where applicable.
- The subscription is billed once a year with no monthly option, and store purchases are not refundable.
- English and French are separate: one language is included, and having both costs CA$89.95 instead of CA$59.95.
- There is no native Android app. Android, Chromebook and Linux users work in Antidote Web, and Antidote Mobile has no corrector of its own.

Keep it
Nothing Antidote does is plain enough to make in a weekend. The 4 things listed below take a company.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 38 of the 69 other writing tools grade higher.
What you could not
- Grammar checking as you type, wherever you type.
- Apps for macOS, Windows and iOS that stay in step with each other.
- It plugs into other products, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Google Docs among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Antidote’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
