Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.2

GPA, above 12 of the 51 other AI agents we grade

Carly AI, formerly CalBot, is an assistant you delegate to by email: you send, CC or forward a message and it handles scheduling, follow-ups, research and updates in connected apps. Paid plans let you create custom agents, each with its own name, email address, permissions and files, and reach them by SMS, Slack or a web dashboard as well. It also builds workflows from a written description, and steps that do not call an AI model use no credits.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Carly AI, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for an assistant you delegate to by email

SMS, calling and the receptionist are paid add-ons for teams, and there's no phone or desktop app.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $35 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $35 per month (Personal, 200 credits included).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

MCP access from Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP client, 10 workflows, a multi-calendar view for Google and Microsoft calendars, and the Task Manager.

  4. 4

    It runs on Web

Web, with a browser extension too.

  5. 5

Delegation by email, SMS, Slack or chat

Send, CC or forward an email to hand over a task, text the agent, mention it in Slack or chat from the dashboard. Emails the agent sends from its own account use no credits.

  6. 6

    Custom agents

Each agent has its own name, email address, integrations, permissions and files, keeps a memory of contacts and preferences, and can be taught your policies and templates as skills.

  7. 7

    Scheduling

Handles group scheduling, booking links and availability polls, and creates events with titles, video links, attendees and time zones across Google and Microsoft calendars.

  8. 8

    A 2.2 GPA, above 12 of 51

That is against the other AI agents we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Carly AI you would be making an AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for an assistant you delegate to by email

Carly is an assistant you email: CC it on a thread or forward a message and it handles scheduling, follow-ups and updates in your other apps. The free plan leaves out the agents, which start at $35 a month with 200 credits, and more credits cost from $30 a month for 400 extra. SMS, calling and the receptionist are paid add-ons for teams, and there's no phone or desktop app.

Value for moneyDThe agents, which are the reason you'd come, only start at $35 a month with 200 credits. Agent tools here mostly start around $23, and the next step up is $30 a month more for 400 credits. Emails it sends and workflow steps with no AI in them are at least free.
Free plan and trialCThere is a free plan, but the agents aren't in it: MCP access from Claude or ChatGPT, 10 workflows, a Google and Microsoft calendar view and the task manager. You'll hit the end of it the moment you want an agent.
FeaturesBIt covers the job: hand work over by email, text, Slack or chat, and each agent has its own email address, memory, files and permissions. Group scheduling, booking links and polls are in, workflows are built by describing them, and 258-plus apps are on the integrations page.
Ease of useCHanding over a task is forwarding an email, but first you're connecting email and calendar accounts, building workflows and watching a credit balance. No rating on record to go by.
Platforms and integrationsBEmail, SMS, Slack, a web dashboard and a Chrome extension, with 258-plus app integrations and an MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT. No phone or desktop app is listed.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Carly AI is for

  • Fits if you'd rather CC an assistant on an email than open one more app
  • Works for booking meetings across Google and Microsoft calendars with several people

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, because the AI agents only start on the $35 plan
  • Pricey if you lean on it all day: 200 credits come with Personal, and add-ons run from $30 to $1,450 a month
  • Watch out: business SMS, calling and the AI receptionist are add-ons for Organization teams, set up on a call
  • Not for you if you want a phone or desktop app, as it works through email, SMS, Slack and the web

Good to know

Good for

  • People who would rather CC an assistant on email than open another app
  • Scheduling across Google and Microsoft calendars with several attendees
  • Rule-based automations that can run without spending credits

Worth knowing

  • The Free plan covers MCP access, 10 workflows, the calendar view and the task manager; AI agents start at $35 a month.
  • Personal includes 200 credits a month. Bigger allowances are add-ons, from $30 a month more for 400 credits up to $1,450 more for 15,200.
  • Business SMS, calling and the AI receptionist are add-ons for Organization teams, billed separately and set up on a call.
  • No mobile or desktop app is listed: Carly works through email, SMS, Slack, a web dashboard and a Chrome extension.

Part 04 · Standing

Other AI agents it is graded above

Carly AI's GPA of 2.2 is higher than 12 of the 51 other AI agents we grade, and level with 10.

It stands best on features (B, above 27 of 51) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Carly AI you would be making an AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 29 of the 51 other AI agents grade higher. It costs $420 a year.

What you could make

  • Calendar, tasks and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • Booking pages that read and write other people's calendars and send the emails.
  • Filters that read every message as it arrives.
  • What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Carly AI’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
