Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 27 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade
Checklist, from Checklist.com B.V., is a checklist and task-list app for iPhone, iPad and Android with a companion web app. A list can be started from a public template or a guided builder, followed one step at a time in guided mode, shared with family or teammates, and turned into a routine that is scheduled and repeated. The mobile apps are free to download, and Plus and Family subscriptions are sold as in-app purchases.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Checklist, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Guided mode walks you through one step at a time, and a list can become a routine that reschedules itself.
- 1
Best for routines you follow one step at a time
Checklist is for lists you run more than once, like the morning routine, the packing list or the weekly clean.
- 2
Paid plans start at $3.33 a month when paid by the year
As its pricing page puts it: $5.99 per month, or $39.99 per year (Checklist Plus).
- 3
There is a free plan
The apps are free to download and use, with Plus and Family subscriptions as in-app purchases. The store listings do not say where the free version stops.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
Templates and builders
Lists can start from public checklist templates or from builders for groceries, routines and packing. The groceries builder has presets and aisle-based categories.
- 6
Guided mode
Guided mode walks through a checklist one step at a time, for routines, packing, cleaning or any procedure where the order matters.
- 7
Routines and schedules
A checklist that repeats can be turned into a routine, scheduled, reused and tracked over time, and the next run can be scheduled when one finishes.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 27 of 123
That is against the other to-do list apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
You could make this
A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.

The report card
Best for routines you follow one step at a time
Checklist is for lists you run more than once, like the morning routine, the packing list or the weekly clean. Guided mode walks you through one step at a time, and a list can become a routine that reschedules itself. But the store listings name Plus and Family plans without saying what either adds or where free ends, the pricing page couldn't be read, and there's no Mac or Windows app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Plus is $39.99 a year, about $3.33 a month, which is the middle of this category. Monthly it's $5.99 and Family is $79.99 a year. And nobody says what Plus adds over free, so you're buying blind. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The apps are free to download and use, but the store listings never say where free stops, so you won't know the cap until you meet it. The web app does hand you 14 days of Pro with no card. |
| Features | C | Templates, builders for groceries and packing, a guided mode for when order matters, routines that reschedule themselves, sharing with family or a team. It does checklists fully, which is a smaller job than this category's: no projects, no planner. |
| Ease of use | B | No store rating on record, but there's genuinely little to set up: you start from a public template or a builder rather than a blank page, and the app suggests tasks as you go. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | iPhone, iPad, Android and a web app, and you can plan a list in ChatGPT or Claude and save it over. No native Mac or Windows app, no API, and those two are the only integrations on record. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Checklist is for
- Fits if you repeat the same routine and want to be walked through it step by step
- Works for households or small teams who share one list or run the same procedure every week
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to know what's free before you start, as the listings don't spell it out
- Pricey if you pay monthly, at $5.99 against $39.99 for the year, or $11.99 a month for Family
- Not for you if you want a native Mac or Windows app, because there isn't one
- Watch out: the web app's Pro and Enterprise plans are priced per seat, but their prices aren't on record here
- Too light for projects or planning, as it does checklists only, with ChatGPT and Claude the only integrations
Good to know
Good for
- Repeatable routines such as cleaning, packing or morning checklists
- Households sharing grocery and chore lists
- Small teams running step-by-step procedures and SOPs
Worth knowing
- Prices here are the US App Store in-app purchases. The pricing page on checklist.com sits behind a security check and could not be read.
- The web app also names Pro and Enterprise plans for organizations, priced per seat; their prices are not covered here.
- The App Store listing is designed for iPad and iPhone and is not verified for macOS; there is no native Mac or Windows app.
- The store listings name the Plus and Family subscriptions without saying what each adds over the free version.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
You could make this
A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.
What Checklist does at its core is tasks and templates, and that is the kind of thing an AI app builder makes well. You would give up 2 things, listed below, and little else. It costs $39.99 a year. An AI app builder starts at about $19 a month on our listings, and you only need it while you build.
What you could make
- Tasks and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Checklist’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
