Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.2

GPA, above 6 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade

CheckYourList is an app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch built around checklists that are used again and again, such as packing lists, gym bags and morning routines. Items are checked off and the whole list is then unchecked with one tap, ready for next time. It needs no account and syncs through iCloud. The free version allows two checklists; Pro, sold monthly, yearly or as a lifetime purchase, removes the limit and adds widgets and daily reminders.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about CheckYourList, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating on record, but there is nothing at all to set up: no login, no account.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for checklists you reuse, like the gym bag

CheckYourList is for checklists you reuse, like the gym bag: tick everything off, tap Uncheck All, and the list is ready for next time, with no account and an Apple Watch app.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $1.67 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $3.99 per month, or $19.99 per year.

  3. 3

  5. 5

    Uncheck All

A finished checklist is reset with one tap on Uncheck All, so the same list is ready for the next day or the next trip without being rebuilt.

  6. 6

    Apple Watch app

A standalone watchOS app syncs with the iPhone, so lists can be viewed and items checked off from the wrist.

  7. 7

    iCloud sync with no account

Checklists sync across iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch through iCloud. There is no login; the press kit says the developer sees none of the data.

  8. 8

    A 2.2 GPA, above 6 of 123

That is against the other to-do list apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card

Best for checklists you reuse, like the gym bag

CheckYourList is for checklists you reuse, like the gym bag: tick everything off, tap Uncheck All, and the list is ready for next time, with no account and an Apple Watch app. But the free version holds only 2 checklists, widgets and reminders need Pro, it's iPhone, iPad and Watch only, and the vendor's own pages can't agree on what lifetime Pro costs.

ToolGPA report cardCheckYourListGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPro is $3.99 a month, between this category's lowest quarter at $2.42 and its dearest quarter at $5. A year is $19.99 and there's a lifetime option, but the numbers don't agree: the FAQ says $24.99, the press kit $49.99, and the App Store lists up to $69.99.
Free plan and trialCFree gets 2 checklists with unlimited items, iCloud sync and the Watch app. Gym bag and morning routine and that's your two gone. Widgets and daily reminders need Pro as well.
FeaturesCReusable lists with a one-tap reset, a standalone Watch app, widgets, Shortcuts that open a list: it does that job completely. It's a much smaller job than this category's, though, with no repeat scheduling and no sharing, both left out on purpose.
Ease of useBNo store rating on record, but there is nothing at all to set up: no login, no account. Make a list, tick it, reset it.
Platforms and integrationsCApple handhelds only: iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, synced through iCloud, with Shortcuts and Spotlight. The FAQ says there's no Android version yet, and there's no Mac app on the listing.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who CheckYourList is for

  • Fits if you pack the same bag or run the same morning routine over and over
  • Works for people who want to tick lists off on an Apple Watch, without streaks or habit scores

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, because 2 checklists is all you get, and widgets and daily reminders need Pro
  • Skip it if you use Android or want it on a Mac, as it's iPhone, iPad and Watch only
  • Too light for tasks that need scheduling or sharing, since it leaves both out on purpose
  • Watch out: lifetime Pro is $24.99 in the FAQ and $49.99 in the press kit, and the App Store lists two or three prices per option

Good to know

Good for

  • Routines repeated often, such as packing, gym bags and mornings
  • People who want a checklist with no streaks or habit scores
  • Apple Watch users who check items off from the wrist

Worth knowing

  • The free version is limited to 2 checklists; widgets and daily reminders are Pro features.
  • Apple devices only: the FAQ says there is no Android version yet, and the App Store listing does not include a Mac app.
  • Vendor pages disagree on the lifetime price, and the App Store lists two or three prices for each Pro option, so the price shown in the app may differ.
  • By design it has no streaks, habit tracking or recurring-task scheduling.

CheckYourList's GPA of 2.2 is higher than 6 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade, and level with 20.

It stands best on ease of use (B, above 56 of 123) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 6).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.

You could make the core of CheckYourList for yourself: tasks. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $19.99 a year it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.

What you could make

  • Tasks: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app, widgets, Shortcuts and the lock screen.

What this rests on. CheckYourList’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
