Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.0

GPA, above 107 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade

Craft is a notes and documents app with native apps for Mac, iPhone, iPad, Windows and Android plus a web app. Documents are built from blocks and sit alongside tasks, daily notes, whiteboards and collections of structured data. The Starter plan is free up to 1,500 blocks; Plus removes the content limit, and Family and Team are fixed-price bundles of Plus accounts.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Craft, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Offline it can't make new docs, search or run the AI, calendar and Reminders hook-ups are Apple only, and there's no Linux app.
From our review of Craft
  1. 1

Best for notes and docs you publish as web pages

Craft is a notes and documents app built from blocks, with covers, fonts and page styles, and any doc can be published as a web page.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $8 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $96 per year ($8 a month), or $10 billed monthly.

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Starter plan: up to 1,500 content blocks across all documents, 1 GB of storage, 25 MB per file, 7-day version history and 15 AI credits.

  4. 4

    It runs on 5 platforms

Web, macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.

  5. 5

    Block-based documents

Documents combine styled text, headings, lists and tables in blocks, and can be shared or published to the web.

  6. 6

Tasks sit inside documents and daily notes, with a calendar view. On Mac, iPhone and iPad, system calendar events appear alongside them.

  7. 7

    Whiteboards and Collections

Whiteboards provide a visual canvas, and Collections add structured tracking with rich data to a document.

  8. 8

    Keep it

The plain part of Craft you could make: notes, daily notes and tasks. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

The report card

Best for notes and docs you publish as web pages

Craft is a notes and documents app built from blocks, with covers, fonts and page styles, and any doc can be published as a web page. The free plan stops at 1,500 blocks, where every paragraph counts, and then it's $96 a year for one person. Offline it can't make new docs, search or run the AI, calendar and Reminders hook-ups are Apple only, and there's no Linux app. If you just want plain notes for free, look elsewhere.

ToolGPA report cardCraftGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPlus is $96 a year, which is $8 a month, the dearer half of this category, and $10 if you pay month to month. Family is $180 a year for up to 6 Plus accounts, and Team is $600 for up to 10.
Free plan and trialCFree for as long as you like, with 1 GB of storage, but the wall is real: 1,500 blocks, and every paragraph, heading and picture is one. Students and teachers skip all that, as a school email gets the paid features free.
FeaturesBDocs built from blocks, tasks, daily notes, a calendar, whiteboards and Collections, which are little databases. Any doc publishes as a web page, and the API and MCP server come with every plan, the free one included. Offline is the gap: no new documents, no search and no AI without a connection.
Ease of useA4.83 from about 6,600 App Store ratings, nine in ten of them five stars. Reviewers keep comparing it to Notion and saying there's far less to learn. You open a doc and start writing.
Platforms and integrationsAMac, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Android, web and a browser clipper, with a REST API and an MCP server on every plan. The holes are a missing Linux app, and calendar events, Reminders and Shortcuts working on Apple devices only.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Craft is for

  • Fits if you share docs, like a trip plan or a proposal, as a web page with a link
  • Works for families and small teams who want one flat price for up to 6 or 10 people

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, because 1,500 blocks goes quickly when every paragraph counts
  • Pricey if it's only you, at $96 a year or $10 a month when plenty of notes apps cost nothing
  • Not for you if you're on Linux, or want calendar and Reminders hook-ups off Apple devices
  • Skip it if your team is bigger than 10, because past that you have to ask for a quote
  • Watch out: offline can't create docs, search or use AI, prices vary by country, and its pages disagree on Plus storage

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want polished documents and personal notes in one app
  • Individuals and families working mainly on Apple devices, with Windows, Android and web as well
  • Small teams of up to 10 that prefer a fixed price over per-seat billing

Worth knowing

  • The free Starter plan stops at 1,500 content blocks, 1 GB of storage and 25 MB per file.
  • Shared spaces come with the Family and Team bundles, which are capped at 6 and 10 accounts.
  • Offline use covers documents opened earlier; creating documents, search and the AI assistant need a connection.
  • Prices are set per country in local currency, so the amount shown on the pricing page varies by region.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Craft you could make: notes, daily notes and tasks. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 107 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade. It costs $96 a year.

What you could make

  • Notes, daily notes and tasks: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • An endless canvas that stays smooth with hundreds of things on it.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, Readwise, Apple Reminders and Apple Shortcuts among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Craft’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
