Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 48 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade

DGT GTD is a free to-do list app for Android that can be set up around the Getting Things Done method or the user's own system. Tasks are organized by folder, context, location, tag and star, with subtasks nested to any depth, repeating schedules and nagging alarms. It syncs with Toodledo through a separate plugin and with Dropbox or FTP. The developer, dgtale, still labels the app a work in progress and accepts donations.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about DGT GTD, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card

Best for free Getting Things Done on Android

DGT GTD is a free Android to-do app with folders, contexts, tags, subtasks nested as deep as you like, and alarms that keep going until you act. But its own Play listing still calls it a work in progress, the Toodledo sync plugin is beta and warns of data loss, the site was last updated in 2019, and the developer now calls DGT SODA the evolution of this app. iPhone users should look elsewhere.

ToolGPA report cardDGT GTDGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAFree on Google Play with no in-app purchases on the listing, against a category whose middle plan is $3.99 a month. The developer's site asks for donations and makes clear they're optional.
Free plan and trialAFree outright, the whole app, and the separate Toodledo sync plugin too. No paid tier being dangled, no trial clock, and no cap to walk into.
FeaturesCPlenty on paper: unlimited nesting, complex repeats, nagging alarms, bulk edit, a task made for you after a missed call. But the gaps are the vendor's own words. The Play listing says it isn't a full implementation, and the Toodledo plugin is beta and warns about data loss.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and sync is work: Toodledo wants a separate plugin, and the Dropbox route points at a Value Pack whose store page we couldn't find. The site itself was last updated in 2019.
Platforms and integrationsDOne operating system: Android, with no iPhone, web or desktop version. It does talk to Toodledo, Dropbox and Tasker, but the app only ever lives on one kind of phone.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who DGT GTD is for

  • Fits if you run Getting Things Done on Android with contexts and folders
  • Works for Toodledo account holders who want an Android app with alarms that repeat until you act

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you have an iPhone or want your tasks on a computer, as it's Android only
  • Not for you if you want a finished product, since its own Play listing still calls it a work in progress
  • Tight if you rely on sync, because the Toodledo plugin is beta and warns about data loss
  • Watch out: Dropbox and FTP sync need a Value Pack whose Google Play page wasn't found when checked
  • Watch out: the site was last updated in 2019, and the developer calls DGT SODA the evolution of this app

Good to know

Good for

  • Android users who follow Getting Things Done with contexts and folders
  • Toodledo account holders who want an Android client
  • People who want insistent, repeating alarms on their tasks

Worth knowing

  • It is Android only, and its Google Play listing still calls it a work in progress and not a full implementation.
  • Toodledo sync needs a separate plugin that is marked beta and warns that data loss might happen.
  • The developer's site says Dropbox and FTP sync need a DGT GTD Value Pack, but that add-on's Google Play page was not found when checked.
  • The website was last updated in 2019. The developer also publishes DGT SODA, which it describes as the evolution of DGT GTD.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

DGT GTD is free, so making your own would save you nothing.

What you could make

  • Tasks, notes and goals: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A real app for Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, Toodledo, Dropbox and Tasker among them.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.

What this rests on. DGT GTD’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
