Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 3 of the 36 other read-later and bookmark apps we grade

Feeder is an RSS reader and news monitoring service from Really Simple i Stockholm AB, a Swedish company whose founders started it in 2010. It follows RSS feeds, YouTube, Reddit, Mastodon, Bluesky, Google Alerts and email newsletters in a web reader, browser extensions and iOS and Android apps. Paid plans add faster updates, a dashboard, rules and filters, and the per-user Professional plan adds team sharing and posting to Slack, Microsoft Teams and Discord.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Feeder, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The browser extension sits behind a toolbar icon, shows the unread count and opens new posts straight away, so there's little to learn.
From our grade for ease of use

The report card

Best for catching new posts within minutes

Feeder is a feed reader that watches RSS, YouTube, Reddit, newsletters and more, checking every 5 minutes on Plus or every minute on Professional. The free plan takes 200 feeds but checks only every 30 minutes. Plus is $7.99 a month paid yearly, which is the dearest tenth of this category, team sharing is $14.99 a user, the API is Enterprise only, and there's no highlighting or notes.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDPlus is $7.99 a month paid yearly, $9.99 monthly, and $7.99 is exactly where the dearest tenth of this category starts, against a $3.33 middle. It buys 2,500 feeds, 5-minute updates, the dashboard and rules. Team sharing is $14.99 a user, and the API is Enterprise only.
Free plan and trialBA free plan one person could really live on: 200 feeds with no ads, across the web reader, the extension and the phone apps, with YouTube, Reddit, Google Alerts and newsletters all counting as sources. The caps are 30-minute updates, 50 posts of history a feed and 2 AI summaries a day.
FeaturesCIt watches RSS, YouTube, Reddit, Mastodon, Bluesky, Google Alerts and newsletters, with AI summaries that cite what they read. But the gaps are the listing's own: no read-later list, highlighting or notes anywhere, and rules, filters and the dashboard all need Plus.
Ease of useB4.67 from about 1,000 App Store ratings, just under the 4.7 our top mark wants. The browser extension sits behind a toolbar icon, shows the unread count and opens new posts straight away, so there's little to learn.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, iPhone and Android, with extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Yandex, and Professional posts out to Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Telegram, webhooks and Zapier. There's no desktop app outside the browser, and the API is Enterprise only.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

  • Skip it if you want to highlight and take notes, as the listing shows no such tools
  • Not for you if you need an API or SSO without an Enterprise deal

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Feeder you could make: rSS reader. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 26 of the 36 other read-later and bookmark apps grade higher. It costs $95.88 a year.

What you could make

  • RSS reader: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Discord among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.

What this rests on. Feeder’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
