Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.4

GPA, above 42 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade

Finch is a self-care app for iOS and Android built around a virtual pet bird. Checking off daily goals and self-care activities earns energy that sends the bird on adventures, and the app also includes guided reflections, mood check-ins, breathing exercises and a focus timer. The core features are free, and an optional Finch Plus subscription adds more prompts, activities and customization.

To get you started, here are 10 things to know about Finch, taken from its own pages and our grades.

New users start with a few suggested goals, so there's nothing to design on day one.
From our grade for ease of use

  3. 3

  5. 5

    Virtual pet companion

Completing goals and activities earns energy that sends the bird on an adventure. It comes back with a story and sometimes a new discovery.

  6. 6

    Daily goals

Set personal goals such as drinking water or making the bed and check them off through the day. New users start with a few suggested goals.

  7. 7

    Reflections and journaling

Reflection prompts cover writing about the day, gratitude and how you are feeling. Finch Plus adds further prompts.

  8. 8

    Refunds: no set window

Finch Plus is sold through Apple and Google, and Finch says so plainly: refunds are the store's call, not theirs. You cancel in your own device settings and keep Plus to the end of the cycle you paid for, which is how app-store subscriptions normally work.

  9. 9

The report card

Best for building habits with a virtual pet

Finch turns self-care into looking after a little bird: tick off your goals and it heads out on an adventure and comes back with a story. The core is free, and it rates 4.95 from about 760,000 App Store ratings. But it's phones only, with no web, desktop or integrations, the whole app is built around the pet, and the store lists Plus from $5.99 to $69.99 without saying what period any of it covers.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAYou don't have to pay at all: the goals, reflections, mood check-ins, breathing, the focus timer and the bird itself are free, and Plus buys extra prompts, emoji, timer options and seasonal rewards. The one blot is that the store lists Plus from $5.99 to $69.99 without saying what period any of it covers.
Free plan and trialAFree with no cap on record: care for the bird, send it on adventures, set your own goals, write reflections, send good vibes to friends and join the seasonal events. Extra prompts, emoji, timer options and seasonal rewards are Plus.
FeaturesBDaily goals you tick off, mood check-ins with trends, insights that pull mood, journal tags and goals together, reflection prompts, breathing exercises, soundscapes, a focus timer and friends you can send encouragement to.
Ease of useA4.95 on the App Store from about 760,000 ratings, above the 4.7 from 1,000 that an A needs. New users start with a few suggested goals, so there's nothing to design on day one.
Platforms and integrationsCiPhone and Android, and that's the lot. No web page, no desktop app, no watch on record, and nothing it connects to, so Apple Health can't tick a goal off for you.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Finch is for

  • Fits if you keep habits up more easily with a game-like reward
  • Works for pairing small daily goals with mood check-ins and a bit of journaling

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want your habits on a laptop, as there's no web or desktop version
  • Not for you if a pet bird sounds like a distraction, since the whole app is built around it
  • Pricey if you don't check first, as Plus runs from $5.99 to $69.99 and the store shows no billing periods
  • Too light for data-driven tracking, as nothing connects to it, so Apple Health can't tick a goal off for you

Good to know

Good for

  • People who keep habits up more easily with a game-like reward
  • Pairing small daily goals with mood check-ins and guided reflection
  • Using the core tracker without paying for a subscription

Worth knowing

  • iOS and Android only; the vendor lists no web or desktop version.
  • The App Store lists Finch Plus purchases from $5.99 to $69.99 without billing periods, so check the offer shown in the app before subscribing.
  • Extra reflection prompts, expanded activity and timer options and extra seasonal rewards need Finch Plus.

What most people miss: ways to pay less, settings worth changing and the catches

7

Things most people miss, each from its own help pages

The things about Finch that are easy to miss until they cost you: ways to pay less, settings worth changing and the catches at renewal or when you leave. Each one is from Finch’s own pages, linked beside it.

Read on Oct 17, 2026. Read from Finch's help centre (its FAQs, backups, Finch Plus pricing, preview and cancelling, Wellhub, Pause Mode, Waking Hours and muting) on 17 October 2026. Not tried out: these tips are what its own pages say.

  1. 1

    Setting

Make an account, or your bird only lives on this phone

Finch's help centre says all data is saved only on your device by default, so deleting the app can lose it. Settings, Profile, Create Account turns on cloud backups every 24 hours. Under Your data there's also a Manual Backup file you can save somewhere safe.

    help.finchcare.com
  2. 2

    Renewal

The 3-day Plus preview ends by itself, the 7-day trial doesn't

After 3 days of use, Finch gives you a Plus preview that ends with no charge and nothing to cancel. The 7-day free trial is different: it turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings. One trial per account.

    help.finchcare.com
  3. 3

    Pay less

Your employer's Wellhub plan may include Finch Plus

If your job gives you Wellhub, search for Finch in its Explore tab and tap Activate. Already paying? Wellhub access starts when your current period ends, with no refund or proration, and you have to cancel the App Store or Google Play subscription yourself.

    help.finchcare.com
  4. 4

    Pay less

Enter the monthly Guardian raffle for free Plus

Finch's FAQ points anyone who can't afford Plus to its monthly Guardian raffles, under Settings, Become a Guardian, Enter Raffle. It says winners can get free Plus, and that heavily discounted subscriptions are possible too.

    help.finchcare.com
  5. 5

    Setting

Set your Waking Hours if you're up late or early

Finch's day doesn't reset at midnight. It resets about two hours before your wake-up time, so get up at 7 and it rolls over around 5. Change it under Profile, Waking Hours, so late-night check-ins land on the right day.

    help.finchcare.com
  6. 6

    Easy to miss

Pause Mode keeps your streak safe on a bad week

Turn on Pause Mode in Settings and pick how many days. Your streak is held, goals are hidden so nothing nags you, and the First Aid Kit stays there if you need it. You can switch it off early from the Pause Mode screen.

    help.finchcare.com
  7. 7

    Setting

Mute words and exercises you'd rather not see

Under Preferences, then Muted tags, type words or phrases and Finch keeps them out of suggestions and prompts. For an exercise, tap the three dots on it and choose Mute exercise. You can unmute anything later from Preferences.

Finch's GPA of 3.4 is higher than 42 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade, and level with 1.

It stands best on free plan and trial (A, above 34 of 43) and worst on platforms and integrations (C, above 4).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A habit tracker at its plainest is a list of habits, a tick for each day and a count of the streak.

You could make the core of Finch for yourself: habit tracking, goals, daily notes and mood tracking. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call.

What you could make

  • Habit tracking, goals, daily notes and mood tracking: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Finch’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

Part 06 · Refunds

After you pay

Getting your money back, getting out, and getting help

CRefunds
CSupport

What happens once you have paid: whether you can get your money back, how to leave, and how to reach a person when something goes wrong. Each is graded from Finch’s own terms and help pages.

Refunds and cancelling

CGrade

Ordinary · checked Oct 18, 2026

Finch Plus is sold through Apple and Google, and Finch says so plainly: refunds are the store's call, not theirs. You cancel in your own device settings and keep Plus to the end of the cycle you paid for, which is how app-store subscriptions normally work. The team does say it will help with an accidental charge, and it offers a workaround if Apple turns a refund down. That is a C.

Refund window
No set window
How you cancel
In the app store
Getting your money back

The FAQs article says refunds are handled directly by the App Store or Google Play and are requested through your device's purchase history. If Apple denies a refund, Finch says it can offer a workaround through Amazon or PayPal, and for Google Play it points you to Google's support. A separate article says to write to the team about a refund for an accidental Finch Plus subscription.

Stated on help.finchcare.com
How to cancel Finch

Finch Plus is cancelled in your device settings, not in the app. On iOS you open Settings, then Apple ID, then Subscriptions, pick Finch and tap Cancel Subscription. On Android you open the Google Play Store, go to Menu, then Subscriptions, select Finch and cancel. The article adds that anyone stuck can write to the support address it gives.

  1. On iOS, open your device's Settings
  2. Tap Apple ID, then Subscriptions
  3. Select Finch and tap Cancel Subscription
Stated on help.finchcare.com
What you keep afterwards

Cancelling ends the Plus features at the end of the current billing cycle, so access runs to the subscription's original expiry date. The free version stays. A separate article says Finch data is saved only on the device by default, and that you can turn on cloud backups by creating an account or save a manual backup file from the Your data section before uninstalling.

Stated on help.finchcare.com
Renewals

The FAQs article says the three-day free Plus trial ends on its own with no subscription, while the seven-day trial turns into a subscription unless it is cancelled by hand, with one trial per account. The billing is Apple's or Google's, so renewals run on the store's cycle. No page read mentions a reminder before a renewal.

Stated on help.finchcare.com

In your favour

  • You cancel in your own phone settings, in three taps, with nobody to write to.
  • Plus keeps working until the date you already paid up to.
  • Finch says its team will help with a refund for an accidental Plus subscription.
  • If Apple turns down a refund, Finch says it can arrange a workaround instead.

Watch out for

  • Refunds are Apple's or Google's decision, not Finch's, and no window is stated anywhere.
  • The seven-day trial becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel it by hand.
  • Linking Finch Plus through Wellhub does not refund or prorate a subscription you are already paying for.
  • Your data sits on the device unless you create an account or save a backup file, so back up before uninstalling.

Customer support

CGrade

Ordinary · checked Oct 18, 2026

There is a written help centre, a ticket form on it, and a list of addresses split by topic, from general support to gifting. What there is not is any promise about speed: the page says only that the team does its best to reply quickly, with no hours and no target. That is where most small apps sit, so a C.

Ways to get help

  • Email

The help centre's Get in Touch article lists separate addresses by topic: general support for bugs, app questions and subscription problems, and others for the community groups, the merch shop, the Guardians programme, gifting, partnerships and press.

    Stated on help.finchcare.com
  • Contact form or ticket

Every help-centre article ends with a Submit a request link that opens a ticket form on the same help centre. It is open to anyone, with no sign-in shown.

  • Help centre

The same Get in Touch article points to a Facebook group, a Discord server, a subreddit and community meetups, and gives a separate address for questions about them.

Its pages do not say.

How fast it says it replies

The Get in Touch article says only that the team does its best to reply as quickly as possible. No target time and no working hours are stated on any page read.

Stated on help.finchcare.com
What depends on your plan

Its pages do not say.

In your favour

  • Free users and Plus subscribers get the same routes in: nothing is held back for people who pay.
  • Questions are sorted to the right team by topic rather than dumped in one inbox.
  • The FAQ page answers billing, trials, lost data and refunds in detail, for free.
  • The help centre says the team can restore items and stones by hand after data loss.

Watch out for

  • No hours and no target reply time are stated anywhere we could read.
  • There is no live chat and no phone line.
  • Finch says encrypted cloud backups cannot be opened by its team, so lost keys mean lost data.

What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: Finch's help centre and its articles on cancelling Finch Plus, subscribing, Finch Plus pricing, the Wellhub tie-in, data backup and recovery, the FAQ page and the Get in Touch article, plus the ticket form. The terms of service sit on a Notion page that would not load for our reader or in a browser, so they were not read. Nobody here cancelled a plan or contacted Finch's support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA. How we grade refunds and support.
