Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 6 of the 30 other form and survey tools we grade

Formbricks is an open-source survey and experience management platform. Surveys can be shared as a link, shown to targeted visitors on a website, embedded in an email or triggered inside a web or mobile app. It runs as a cloud service hosted in Frankfurt, Germany, or self-hosted for free under the AGPLv3 license, with a paid Enterprise license for extra self-hosting features.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Formbricks, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Self-hosting is free but means a Docker install, and SSO and team roles there need an Enterprise license with no public price.

The report card

Best for open-source surveys inside your own product

Formbricks is an open-source survey tool that can show surveys inside your website or app to chosen groups of visitors. The Hobby cloud plan stops at 250 responses a month and 1 workspace, the next step is Pro at $74 a month billed yearly, and overage is charged per response. Self-hosting is free but means a Docker install, and SSO and team roles there need an Enterprise license with no public price.

ToolGPA report cardFormbricksGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyD$74 a month billed yearly is exactly where this category's dearest tenth begins, three times the $24 middle, and it buys 2,000 responses. Hiding the branding, the integrations and the mobile SDKs all start there, and going over your limit is charged per response.
Free plan and trialBTwo free routes. The Hobby cloud plan has all question types, logic and API access but stops at 250 responses a month and 1 workspace. The self-hosted Community Edition is unlimited and free under AGPLv3, if you run the server yourself.
FeaturesBIt covers the survey job end to end: by link, on a website, in an email or triggered inside a web or native mobile app, with all question types, conditional logic, hidden fields, recall, partial responses and segments from Pro.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and there's real setup either way: in-app surveys mean installing an SDK and defining attributes and segments, and hosting it yourself means a Docker install.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb with full API access even on the free plan, plus Slack, Zapier, Notion, Google Sheets and Airtable, and iOS and Android SDKs from Pro. No app of its own, though.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Formbricks is for

  • Fits if you're a product team asking questions inside your own website or app
  • Works for organizations that want to self-host an open-source survey tool, or keep cloud data in Frankfurt

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you stay on Hobby: 250 responses a month and 1 workspace
  • Pricey if you outgrow that, since the next cloud step is $74 a month billed yearly ($89 monthly), and overage is charged per response
  • Watch out: hiding the branding, the integrations, custom webhooks and the mobile SDKs all start at Pro
  • Not for you if you self-host and need SSO, team roles or multi-language surveys, which take an Enterprise license with no public price
  • Skip it if you want a quick contact form: in-app surveys need an SDK installed, and self-hosting means running Docker

Good to know

Good for

  • Product teams running surveys inside a website or app
  • Organizations that want to self-host an open-source survey tool
  • Teams that need survey data hosted in the EU

Worth knowing

  • The free Hobby plan allows 250 responses a month and 1 workspace; Pro allows 2,000 responses and Scale 5,000.
  • Responses beyond a paid plan's monthly limit are charged per response as overage.
  • Hiding Formbricks branding, integrations, custom webhooks and the mobile SDKs start at Pro on the cloud.
  • Self-hosted team roles, SSO and multi-language surveys need an Enterprise license, which has no published price.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

6/30

Other form and survey tools it is graded above

Formbricks's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 6 of the 30 other form and survey tools we grade, and level with 12.

It stands best on free plan and trial (B, above 21 of 30) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $74 a month, against a middle price of $21 for the category: 28 of the 30 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.7 out of 4. 5 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Formbricks you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 12 of the 30 other form and survey tools grade higher. It costs $888 a year. Formbricks is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.

What you could make

  • Surveys and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Formbricks’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
