The report card
Best for dietitians and coaches who run client programs
Healthie covers scheduling, charting, Zoom telehealth, payments and client programs, with a client app for journaling. Core is $18 a month but stops at 10 active clients, unlimited clients start on Plus at $115, and claims need a Claim.MD account you pay for on top.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Core is $18 a month on yearly billing, the lowest start in this category, but it holds 10 active clients. A normal caseload needs Essentials at $45 ($49.99 monthly), above the category's middle of $39, and unlimited clients means Plus at $115. |
| Free plan and trial | C | A 14-day trial of Plus with no card. There's no free plan, so after two weeks you're paying. |
| Features | B | Scheduling with reminders, charting, care plans, a form builder, telehealth on Zoom, Stripe payments, claims through Claim.MD, and online programs with food and lifestyle journals. Nothing in the job is missing. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. Forms, programs and a Claim.MD account all need setting up before you bill insurance or run a program. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone and Android, with Stripe, Zoom, Claim.MD, Fullscript, DoseSpot, Quest and Labcorp. API access costs extra, and there's no desktop app. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Healthie is for
- Fits if you're a dietitian or health coach who runs programs and wants clients journaling between visits
- Works for a solo clinician starting out with 10 or fewer active clients, on Core at $18 a month
Who it is not for
- Tight if you have more than 10 active clients, as Core stops there and Essentials stops at 250
- Pricey if you need unlimited clients or group telehealth, which start on Plus at $115 a month
- Watch out: claims need Claim.MD, listed at $25 to $30 a month plus a $50 to $100 setup fee, and cards cost 2.9% + 30¢
- Watch out: AI charting and the API cost extra, ePrescribing is $40 per clinician, and an inbound fax line is $10 below Plus
- Not for you if you have several clinicians and want a low price, as Group is $135 plus $50 per clinician

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Healthie you would be making video sessions that meet health privacy rules. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.4 is higher than 8 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software we grade. It costs $216 a year.
What you could make
- Clinical notes and appointment booking: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Video sessions that meet health privacy rules.
- Insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse.
- Fax numbers connected to the phone network.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Stripe, Zoom and Claim.MD among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- People on the other end: coaches. No app builder makes those.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: HIPAA.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Healthie’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
