Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.0
GPA, above 1 of the 20 other e-signature and proposal tools we grade
Ignition is a proposal and billing platform for accounting firms, agencies and other service businesses. Clients accept a proposal and its engagement letter online and give their payment details at the same time, after which Ignition raises invoices and collects payments on the agreed schedule. Plans are priced by the number of active clients, with a 14-day trial.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Ignition, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for accounting firms billing clients on autopilot
But it's priced well above plain proposal tools, and as a signing tool it's thin.
- 2
Paid plans start at $39 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $39 per month for up to 20 active clients, billed annually ($49 monthly).
- 3
You can try it first
14-day free trial of every feature, including up to $10,000 in fee-free payments; no credit card needed
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
Proposals with options
Branded online proposals with up to 3 options, add-ons and a preloaded library of services. Core and higher plans send proposals in bulk.
- 6
Engagement letters
Engagement letter or contract terms go with each proposal, from an industry-standard template or your own wording, and are accepted with it.
- 7
Automatic billing and payments
Clients give card or bank details as they accept; invoices and payments then run one-off, recurring, hourly, quarterly or yearly.
- 8
A 2.0 GPA, above 1 of 20

The report card
Best for accounting firms billing clients on autopilot
Ignition is for firms that send the same kind of proposal every year: the client picks an option, accepts the engagement letter and hands over card or bank details in one go, then the invoices go out on schedule by themselves. That saves a lot of chasing. But it's priced well above plain proposal tools, and as a signing tool it's thin.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Graded against its own alternatives. Solo is $39 a month billed yearly ($49 monthly) for 1 user and 20 active clients, and only for firms under $150,000 a year. That's two to three times PandaDoc's $19 or Better Proposals' $13 a user. Core is $99 for 3 users. |
| Free plan and trial | C | A 14-day free trial of every feature with no card needed, including up to $10,000 in fee-free payments. That's enough to send real proposals and collect a first payment. There's no free plan. |
| Features | C | Proposals with options, engagement letters, payment details taken at signing, then automatic invoicing and Xero or QuickBooks sync. It goes past proposal tools on billing, but signing is thin: 1 signer per proposal on Solo and Core, and other documents only from Pro. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record. There's a services library to fill, engagement letter wording to settle and Xero or QuickBooks to connect before the first proposal goes out. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with Xero, QuickBooks Online and Slack on every plan, and Gusto, Karbon, Xero Practice Manager and Zapier from Pro. No phone or desktop app. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Ignition is for
- Great if your accounting firm bills the same clients every month and hates chasing payments
- Handy when you want card or bank details collected the moment a client signs
- Good for agencies on retainers that need out-of-scope work billed properly
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you just need proposals signed, at $39 a month for 1 user and 20 clients
- Not for you if you sign lots of other contracts, as that starts on Pro at $229 a month billed yearly
- Tight if your firm passes $150,000 a year, since Solo is only for firms below that
Good to know
Good for
- Accounting, tax and bookkeeping firms billing clients on recurring engagements
- Agencies and consultants that want payment details collected at signing
- Firms on Xero or QuickBooks Online that want invoices created for them
Worth knowing
- Prices follow active clients, those with an accepted proposal still in its term: Solo covers 20, Core 50, Pro 350 and Pro+ 600, then $2 to $7 per extra client.
- Payments carry fees: 2.5% + $0.30 for standard cards, 3.6% + $0.30 for Amex and premium cards, and 1% + $0.30 for ACH, capped at $5 plus 0.3% above $3,000.
- Solo and Core allow 1 signer per proposal; signing documents other than proposals starts on Pro, with 500 a year, and is unlimited on Pro+.
- Zapier and practice-software links start on Pro. The deals pipeline and online forms are $49 a month add-ons below Pro+ and Pro.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
You could make the core of Ignition for yourself: quotes and estimates, invoicing and templates.
What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. It costs $468 a year.
What you could make
- Quotes and estimates, invoicing and templates: an app builder makes these well.
- It runs in a browser, which is where something home-made would run too.
What you could not
- It plugs into other products, Xero, QuickBooks Online and Slack among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Ignition’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
