Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
1.8
GPA, above 0 of the 20 other cold outreach tools we grade
Mailshake sends automated cold email sequences with follow-ups from Gmail, Office 365 or any SMTP and IMAP mailbox, with warm-up and email verification included. Its AI writer drafts copy, and Lead Catcher gathers engaged leads in one place. Plans are billed per user, and the top Sales Engagement plan adds a browser power dialer for calls.
To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Mailshake, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card
Best for simple per-user cold email, with a dialer
Mailshake is plain, tidy cold email: sequences with follow-ups from your own mailbox, warm-up and list cleaning included, and an AI writer to get you going. The top plan adds a phone dialer. But there's no trial at all, and it charges per person where plenty of rivals don't.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Starter's 1,500 sends and one address per person won't carry a sales team, so five people need Email Outreach: $45 a user billed yearly, $45 a head. That's above the category's $40 middle, while most email rivals here charge one price for the whole team. |
| Free plan and trial | F | Nothing free. There's no free plan and no trial, and Mailshake says it takes payment up front. You can cancel before renewal, but that isn't a trial. |
| Features | C | Email sequences with follow-ups, A/B tests, spintax, warm-up and unlimited verification, plus a power dialer on Sales Engagement. The gaps: no LinkedIn steps on record, and rotation and the unified inbox need Email Outreach. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. Quick enough to start, since it sends from Gmail, Office 365 or any SMTP mailbox and the AI writer drafts copy, but you still connect accounts and set up your domain. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web and a browser extension, with Salesforce, Pipedrive, HubSpot and Zapier on Email Outreach and above. No phone or desktop app on record. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Mailshake is for
- Great if you want cold email from your own mailbox without much fuss
- Handy when reps call and email the same leads, with the dialer on Sales Engagement
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to try before paying, as there's no trial at all
- Not for you if you want LinkedIn steps, which Mailshake doesn't do
- Tight if you're on Starter, at 1,500 sends a month and one address per user
Good to know
Good for
- Small sales teams starting cold email from their own mailboxes
- Reps who want calls and emails in one sequence
- Teams that want shared templates and quick onboarding
Worth knowing
- There is no free trial or free plan: Mailshake takes payment up front.
- Starter connects 1 email address and stops at 1,500 sends a month; rotation, the unified inbox and CRM integrations need Email Outreach.
- Calling needs Sales Engagement, $99 per user a month billed monthly, and its free minutes cover North American numbers only.
- More Data Finder credits are an add-on from $17 a month billed yearly ($19 monthly).

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Mailshake you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 20 of the 20 other cold outreach tools grade higher. It costs $300 a year.
What you could make
- Templates: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, Salesforce, HubSpot and Pipedrive among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Mailshake’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
