Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.8
GPA, above 14 of the 14 other hiring and applicant tracking tools we grade
Manatal is an applicant tracking system with a built-in recruitment CRM, used both by companies hiring for themselves and by recruitment agencies that manage clients. It enriches candidate profiles from social networks, recommends candidates for each job with AI, and posts jobs to free and paid boards. Plans are priced per user and differ mainly in job limits and automation.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Manatal, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No App Store rating on record, and job board posting only opens once your account is verified after paying.
- 1
Best for cheap recruiting for small teams and agencies
It fills in candidate profiles from LinkedIn and GitHub and suggests who fits each job.
- 2
Paid plans start at $15 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $15 per user / month, billed annually ($19 billed monthly).
- 3
You can try it first
14-day free trial of all plans, no card required
- 4
It runs on Web
Web, with a browser extension too.
- 5
AI candidate enrichment
Parses resumes and fills candidate profiles with data from LinkedIn, GitHub and other social networks.
- 6
AI recommendations and copilot
Suggests candidates for a job and jobs for a candidate, scores fit with adjustable weighting, and summarizes and compares candidates.
- 7
Sourcing extension
A Chrome extension adds candidates from LinkedIn, LinkedIn Recruiter, Xing, Indeed, SEEK, GitHub and other sites.
- 8
A 2.8 GPA, above 14 of 14
That is against the other hiring and applicant tracking tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Manatal you would be making jobs posted to dozens of job boards at once, which takes an agreement with each board. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for cheap recruiting for small teams and agencies
Manatal is about the cheapest way into a proper applicant tracker: $15 a user a month on yearly billing, with hiring managers free. It fills in candidate profiles from LinkedIn and GitHub and suggests who fits each job. But there are no phone apps, and Professional stops at 15 jobs.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Professional is $15 a user a month on yearly billing ($19 monthly), and hiring managers are unlimited, so a ten-person company with one recruiter pays $15. That buys AI recommendations, a career page and a CRM, well under this category's cheaper quarter of $74. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan, but a 14-day trial of every plan with no card. It leaves out job board posting, mass email and email automations, so you won't see the whole thing. |
| Features | B | Resume parsing with profiles filled in from LinkedIn and GitHub, AI candidate suggestions, a sourcing extension, a career page, posting to free and paid boards, and a client CRM. Covers the job, with workflow automation from Enterprise. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record, and job board posting only opens once your account is verified after paying. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web and a Chrome extension, with LinkedIn, Indeed, Monster, ZipRecruiter, Zapier, Google Workspace, Teams and Outlook. No phone apps, only a progressive web app, and the API needs Enterprise Plus. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Manatal is for
- Great if you're watching every dollar but still want a real tracker
- Handy when you find most candidates on LinkedIn
- Good for small agencies that want a client CRM in the same tool
Who it is not for
- Tight if your account will hold more than 15 jobs, Professional's cap
- Skip it if you want a proper phone app, as there isn't one
- Pricey if you need workflow automation, which starts on Enterprise at $35 a user
Good to know
Good for
- Small teams that want a low per-user price
- Recruitment agencies that also need a client CRM
- Recruiters sourcing heavily from LinkedIn and job sites
Worth knowing
- Professional caps an account at 15 jobs and 10,000 candidates; workflow automation needs Enterprise, and SSO and API access need Enterprise Plus.
- The AI Interviewer and the branded guest portal are add-ons with no price on the pricing page.
- The trial leaves out job board posting, mass email and email automations; job board posting needs account verification after paying.
- There are no native phone apps: mobile use is through a progressive web app.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Manatal you would be making jobs posted to dozens of job boards at once, which takes an agreement with each board. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 14 of the 14 other hiring and applicant tracking tools we grade. It costs $180 a year.
What you could make
- Applicant tracking and reports: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Jobs posted to dozens of job boards at once, which takes an agreement with each board.
- Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Manatal’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
