The report card
Best for getting a whole room to answer live
Mentimeter is a web app for live polls, word clouds, Q&A and quizzes that people answer from their own phones with a code and no account. It costs more than most here: Basic is €14 a presenter a month billed yearly, branding and co-editing need Pro at €28 on yearly billing only, and the free plan stops at 50 participants a month. Prices are in euros before tax, so the bill comes out higher.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Basic is €14 a presenter a month billed yearly, and the dearest tenth of this category starts at $14.99, so that's where it sits. Your own branding, a shared workspace and co-editing need Pro at €28, nearly three times the $9.99 middle, and Pro is yearly billing only. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free with no time limit, with Menti AI and 23 slide types, but capped at 50 participants a month plus one session a month with no limit. Two classes of 30 and you're past it. |
| Features | C | Live polls, word clouds, Q&A, surveys and quizzes that add up to one winner, with an AI that drafts the whole thing, and it covers that audience job completely. It's a smaller job than building decks, though, and importing your PowerPoint or Keynote slides needs Basic. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record, and you still write every question and build the deck before the session. The audience joins with a link or a code and needs no account. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A web app with nothing of its own to install. It connects to PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Slides, plus Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle and Brightspace with optional gradebook sync. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Mentimeter is for
- Fits if you teach or present and want the room answering from their own phones
- Works for a single big event, since the Conference plans sell 30 days of access from €350
Who it is not for
- Pricey if it's just you presenting: Basic is €14 a month billed yearly, or €17.99 paid monthly
- Tight if you're staying free and speak to more than 50 people a month, apart from one open session
- Not for you if you need your own branding, a shared workspace or co-editing without Pro at €28 a month, billed yearly only
- Skip it if you want to import PowerPoint or Keynote slides or export results for free, as both need Basic
- Watch out: prices are listed in euros and exclude tax

- Prices are listed in euros, as the plans page displayed them, and exclude tax.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Mentimeter you could make: surveys and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 19 of the 24 other presentation tools grade higher. It costs $188.26 a year.
What you could make
- Surveys and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A slide editor.
- It plugs into other products, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams and Zoom among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Mentimeter’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
