Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 6 of the 30 other form and survey tools we grade

Paperform is a form builder that is edited like a document, with built-in payments, appointment booking, calculations and conditional logic. Every plan includes unlimited forms, fields and users, and an account also covers Papersign for signed documents and Stepper for multi-step workflows. The free plan accepts 30 submissions a month; paid plans lift that limit and remove Paperform branding.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Paperform, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating on record, and you're still building each form, even if the doc-style editor and slash commands make it feel like typing.

The report card

Best for forms that sell, book and get things signed

Paperform is a form builder you edit like a document, with payments that carry no Paperform fee, bookings, signed documents and workflows, and unlimited users on every plan. The free plan stops at 30 submissions a month with a badge you can't remove, and the next step is $49 a month billed yearly. Webhooks and the API need a paid plan, a custom domain is $20 more on Pro, and SSO waits for Business at $124.

Value for moneyC$49 a month billed annually is twice this category's $24 middle, though it is a flat fee with unlimited users and unlimited submissions under fair use. A custom domain is another $20 a month on Pro, and SSO and roles mean Business at $124.
Free plan and trialCUnlimited forms, fields and users, but 30 submissions a month and a Paperform badge that can't be switched off. Paid plans get an unrestricted 7-day trial with no credit card.
FeaturesBThe whole job and the business around it: payments through Stripe, Square or Braintree with no Paperform fee, an appointment field that syncs to Google Calendar, logic and scoring on every plan, then Papersign for signed documents and Stepper for workflows.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and you're still building each form, even if the doc-style editor and slash commands make it feel like typing. The 30,000-odd templates are the quickest way past a blank page.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb with Google Sheets, Mailchimp, Slack, HubSpot, Notion, Airtable, Zapier and Stripe. No phone or desktop apps, and webhooks and the REST API both need a paid plan.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

  • Watch out: webhooks, the REST API, custom PDFs, partial submissions and hidden fields all need a paid plan
  • Not for you if you need SSO, roles or several workspaces on a small budget, as those start at Business, $124 a month

Other form and survey tools it is graded above

Paperform's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 6 of the 30 other form and survey tools we grade, and level with 12.

It stands best on features (B, above 9 of 30) and worst on ease of use (C, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $49 a month, against a middle price of $21 for the category: 25 of the 30 others that charge start lower.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Paperform you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 12 of the 30 other form and survey tools grade higher. It costs $588 a year.

What you could make

  • Forms, surveys and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • A builder that other people can use without writing code.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Paperform’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
