Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 3 of the 79 other project management tools we grade
ProjectManager is an online project and portfolio management tool built around Gantt charts, with list, sheet, board and calendar views of the same plan. The Business plan adds resource and workload planning, timesheets, budgets, portfolio dashboards and automation. It is paid-only after a 30-day trial, and the Team plan is limited to 10 users and 20 projects.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about ProjectManager, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Importing an existing plan, Microsoft Project files included, saves rebuilding it by hand, and the five views stay in step.
- 1
Best for Gantt planning across a portfolio of projects
ProjectManager is for people who plan with Gantt charts, with dependencies, baselines and critical path and list, sheet, board and calendar views of the same plan.
- 2
Paid plans start at $15 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $15 per user / month, billed annually.
- 3
You can try it first
30-day free trial, no credit card required
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
Five views of one plan
Every plan includes Gantt, list, sheet, board and calendar views of the same project, with data updating in real time across them.
- 6
Gantt charts with critical path
The Gantt chart supports dependencies, milestones, baselines and critical path, and existing plans can be imported, including Microsoft Project files.
- 7
Resource and workload planning
On Business, managers define working days, set labor rates and balance workloads, while team members log hours on tasks and submit timesheets.
- 8
A 2.2 GPA, above 3 of 79
That is against the other project management tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace ProjectManager you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for Gantt planning across a portfolio of projects
ProjectManager is for people who plan with Gantt charts, with dependencies, baselines and critical path and list, sheet, board and calendar views of the same plan. Team is $15 a user a month and stops at 10 users and 20 projects, workload, timesheets and budgets need Business at $28, Slack and Jira sync cost $5 a user more, and when the 30-day trial ends your data is locked.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Team is $15 a user a month billed annually, nearly twice this category's $8 middle, and it still caps you at 10 users and 20 projects. Resource planning, timesheets, budgets and automation need Business at $28, and Slack, Teams or Jira sync is another $5 a user on top. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan. The trial is 30 days with no card asked for, but when it ends the account and everything you planned in it are locked until you buy an edition. |
| Features | B | Gantt charts with dependencies, milestones, baselines and critical path, the same plan as a list, sheet, board or calendar, Microsoft Project files imported, then workload planning, timesheets, budgets, portfolio dashboards, automation rules and AI insights on Business. The job's covered. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record. Importing an existing plan, Microsoft Project files included, saves rebuilding it by hand, and the five views stay in step. But this is dependency-and-baseline planning: the first schedule takes real work. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone and Android, with no desktop app, and API access from the Team plan. It connects to Teams, Slack, Jira, Azure DevOps, QuickBooks Online and Zapier, though four of those sit in a $5 per user Integration Bundle. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who ProjectManager is for
- Fits if you plan with Gantt charts, dependencies and critical path
- Works for balancing workloads and budgets across a portfolio, on Business at $28 a user
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want a free plan, because after the 30-day trial your data is locked until you pay
- Pricey if you just want a shared Gantt chart, at $15 a user a month before any add-ons
- Tight if you're on Team and growing, since it stops at 10 users and 20 projects
- Watch out: Slack, Microsoft Teams, Jira and Azure DevOps sync are a $5 a user Integration Bundle on top
- Pricey if you need single sign-on, custom permissions or audit logs, which are Enterprise only and quoted on request
Good to know
Good for
- Teams that plan with Gantt charts, dependencies and critical path

- Slack, Microsoft Teams and two-way Jira and Azure DevOps sync are sold as an Integration Bundle at $5 per user / month.
- SAML single sign-on, custom permissions and audit logs are limited to Enterprise, which is quoted on request.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace ProjectManager you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 60 of the 79 other project management tools grade higher. It costs $180 a year.
What you could make
- Tasks, Gantt & timelines, kanban boards, time tracking and reports: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. ProjectManager’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
