Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 8 of the 21 other spreadsheet and database tools we grade
SeaTable is a no-code platform that combines a spreadsheet-style table editor with relational databases, an app builder and automations. Data in a base can be shown as a table, gallery, kanban board, timeline or calendar, and processed with JavaScript or Python scripts. It is offered as a cloud service hosted in the EU, as a dedicated cloud for larger organizations, and as SeaTable Server for installation on a company's own Linux machines.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about SeaTable, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No rating on record, and the work is building the base and the app: tables, column types, views and permissions first.

Bases, tables and 26 column types
Bases hold linked tables with 26 column types, plus filtering, sorting, grouping and row color highlighting. Private views and the sharing of single views need a paid plan.
- 6
Gallery, kanban, timeline and calendar
Besides the table editor, the same data can be shown as an image gallery, a kanban board with drag and drop, a timeline or a calendar.
- 7
App Builder
A drag-and-drop builder for data-driven apps such as a CRM or a project tracker, included on every plan. Public apps can be used without a user account; page permissions need Enterprise.

The report card
Best for an Airtable-style database hosted in the EU
SeaTable is an Airtable-style database with an app builder and automations built in, hosted in the EU or on your own Linux server. The free cloud plan covers up to 25 users and 10,000 rows. But prices are in euros and exclude VAT, there's no iPhone app yet, the free plan lacks permissions and private views, and server licences can't grow mid-term.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Plus is €7 a user a month billed annually, €9 monthly, before VAT, which converts to the ordinary band for this category, between the $5.40 lowest quarter and the $9.99 middle. It buys 50,000 rows, 50 GB for files and private views. Enterprise is €14, and SeaTable Server €500 a year for 10 users. |
| Free plan and trial | B | The cloud Free plan covers up to 25 users with 10,000 rows, 2 GB for files and the App Builder, and SeaTable Server is free for up to 3 users. What's missing: private views, row locking and table, view and column permissions. |
| Features | B | It covers the whole no-code database job: linked tables with 26 column types shown as a table, gallery, kanban board, timeline or calendar, a drag-and-drop App Builder on every plan, automations, web forms, external links and scripts in JavaScript or Python. Python runs and automations come with monthly quotas. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record, and the work is building the base and the app: tables, column types, views and permissions first. The cloud version needs no server; SeaTable Server installs on Linux or a virtual machine. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A web app first, connected through Zapier, Make, n8n and an API. There's an Android app, but the help centre says it only simplifies access to SeaTable Cloud, and an iOS app is planned with no release date, so an A is out. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who SeaTable is for
- Fits if you want an Airtable-style database with your data hosted in the EU
- Works for teams that must self-host, with Active Directory, LDAP or SAML sign-in
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want an iPhone app, as one is planned with no release date, and the Android app only opens SeaTable Cloud
- Not for you if you want prices in dollars, because they're listed in euros and exclude VAT
- Tight if a self-hosted team will grow mid-year, since the 10 and 25 user licences can't be extended during their term
- Too light for free teams that need private views, row locking or table, view and column permissions
- Watch out: Free gets a fixed 100 automations and 12.5 AI credits a month, and SSO needs Enterprise at €14
Good to know
Good for
- Teams that want an Airtable-style database hosted in the EU
- Organizations that need to run their database on their own servers
- Small teams starting free: the cloud Free plan covers up to 25 users
Worth knowing
- Prices are listed in euros and exclude VAT; the pricing page shows no US dollar prices.
- The Free plan stops at 10,000 rows and 2 GB, and lacks private views, row locking and table, view and column permissions.
- SeaTable's help center lists an Android app, which only simplifies access to SeaTable Cloud, and says an iOS app is planned without a release date.
- Server licenses for 10 and 25 users cannot be extended during their term; needing more users means buying a new license.

Python runs and automations come with monthly quotas.
- Bases, tables and 26 column types
- Bases hold linked tables with 26 column types, plus filtering, sorting, grouping and row color highlighting. Private views and the sharing of single views need a paid plan.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace SeaTable you would be making a builder that other people can use without writing code. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $94.13 a year.
What you could not
- A builder that other people can use without writing code.
- A tool that builds and hosts other apps.
- Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
- Databases with views, filters and links between them.
- A real app for Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on and roles and permissions.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. SeaTable’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
