How we grade them
| 3.2GPABaserowVery good | 3.4GPASeaTableVery good | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | BPremium is $10 a user a month billed yearly, or $12 monthly, which is bang on what this category typically charges. That buys 50,000 rows, all the views and the AI features. Role-based permissions, audit logs and single sign-on wait for Advanced at $18. | BPlus is €7 a user a month billed annually, or €9 monthly, before VAT. That's about typical for this category, and it buys 50,000 rows, 50 GB for files and private views. Enterprise is €14, and SeaTable Server is €500 a year for 10 users. |
| Free plan and trial | BBaserow Cloud is free for 3,000 rows and 2 GB per workspace, with 2,000 automation credits a month and only Grid, Form and Gallery views. That's tight for anything that grows. Hosting it yourself lifts the row and storage limits, but then the server is your job. | AThe cloud Free plan covers up to 25 users with 10,000 rows, 2 GB for files and the App Builder. A small team could stay on that. You do go without private views, row locking and column permissions. SeaTable Server is free for up to 3 users too. |
| Features | ALinked tables with more than 20 field types, an Application Builder for portals and internal tools, and automations with branches, conditions and loops. Kuma, the built-in assistant, sets up a database from a description. There's an open API and webhooks too. | ALinked tables with 26 column types, shown as a table, gallery, kanban board, timeline or calendar. There's a drag-and-drop App Builder on every plan, plus automations, web forms and scripts in JavaScript or Python. Python runs, automations and AI credits come with monthly quotas. |
| Ease of use | BNo App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. On the cloud it looks like a spreadsheet, and Kuma will build a first database for you. Self-hosting is a bigger job: Docker, Helm, AWS or Cloudron. | BNo App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. The cloud version is a spreadsheet-style table editor in your browser. SeaTable Server is another matter, as it installs on a Linux server or virtual machine. |
| Platforms and integrations | BIt runs in a browser and that's it, with no desktop or phone apps listed. It does connect well: Zapier, n8n, Make, Slack, an open API and webhooks. On Baserow Cloud the API is limited to 10 concurrent requests. | BIt's a web app first. There's an Android app, but the help center says it only simplifies access to SeaTable Cloud, and an iOS app is planned with no release date. Zapier, Make, n8n and an API handle the connections. |

Baserow
- Cloud plans cap rows per workspace at 3,000 on Free, 50,000 on Premium and 250,000 on Advanced; after 7 days over the cap, new rows are blocked.
- The Free plan is limited to Grid, Form and Gallery views and CSV export; Kanban, Calendar and Timeline views and row comments need Premium.
- Role-based permissions, audit logs and single sign-on start at the Advanced plan, $18 per user / month billed yearly.
- Baserow Cloud limits the API to 10 concurrent requests; the self-hosted version has no rate limit.
SeaTable
- Prices are listed in euros and exclude VAT; the pricing page shows no US dollar prices.
- The Free plan stops at 10,000 rows and 2 GB, and lacks private views, row locking and table, view and column permissions.
- SeaTable's help center lists an Android app, which only simplifies access to SeaTable Cloud, and says an iOS app is planned without a release date.
- Server licenses for 10 and 25 users cannot be extended during their term; needing more users means buying a new license.
Key features
Baserow
- Relational databases and views
- Tables link to one another and offer more than 20 field types. Grid, Form and Gallery views are free; Kanban, Calendar, Timeline and Survey views need a paid plan.
- Application Builder
- A drag-and-drop builder for internal tools, client portals and admin panels that sit on Baserow data, published on a Baserow subdomain or a custom domain.
- Automations
- No-code workflows with triggers, branches, conditions and loops, native HTTP, email and webhook actions, and third-party connectors. Runs draw on a monthly credit allowance.
- Kuma and AI fields
- Kuma, the built-in assistant, sets up databases and applications from a description, and the AI field creates, classifies and enriches data. Teams can bring their own LLM.
- Self-hosting
- Baserow can be installed with Docker, Helm, AWS or Cloudron. The self-hosted version has no limits on rows, storage or API requests, and paid features are licensed per user.
- API and data sync
- An open API with a published OpenAPI specification, plus webhooks. Data sync covers PostgreSQL tables and iCal feeds; Jira, GitLab, GitHub and HubSpot sync is part of the Advanced plan.
SeaTable
- Bases, tables and 26 column types
- Bases hold linked tables with 26 column types, plus filtering, sorting, grouping and row color highlighting. Private views and the sharing of single views need a paid plan.
- Gallery, kanban, timeline and calendar
- Besides the table editor, the same data can be shown as an image gallery, a kanban board with drag and drop, a timeline or a calendar.
- App Builder
- A drag-and-drop builder for data-driven apps such as a CRM or a project tracker, included on every plan. Public apps can be used without a user account; page permissions need Enterprise.
- Automations and scripts
- Automations run a process at a set time or status, and notifications fire on defined triggers. JavaScript runs are unlimited, while Python runs, automations and AI credits have monthly quotas.
- Web forms and external links
- Web forms collect entries from people without an account, and external links open a base to people who have no login. Adding a logo and header image to a form needs Enterprise.
- Self-hosting with SeaTable Server
- The server edition installs on a Linux server or virtual machine and supports SAML, OAuth, Shibboleth, Active Directory and LDAP sign-in, custom roles and self-set API limits.
