Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 4 of the 10 other shipping software we grade

Shippo is a shipping app and API for online sellers. It pulls orders in from stores and marketplaces, compares discounted rates from more than 40 carriers, prints labels in bulk and sends tracking emails, and the paid Pro plan is priced by how many labels you buy each month. Postage is paid separately for each label.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Shippo, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The catch: it lives in a browser only, and the price climbs with your label count.

  5. 5

The report card

Best for multi-carrier labels for small online shops

Shippo is the easy middle pick for a small online shop. It's free up to 30 labels a month, and Pro at $17 a month billed yearly covers up to 200 labels, with 40+ carriers to compare and branded tracking emails. The catch: it lives in a browser only, and the price climbs with your label count.

ToolGPA report cardShippoGraded Oct 18, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyC200 labels a month means Pro: $17 a month billed yearly ($19 monthly), with no label fee listed on top. That's a little under the middle of what this category charges, but not in its cheapest quarter. It climbs with volume, to $179 a month at 10,000 labels.
Free plan and trialCStarter is free for up to 30 labels a month and 1 user, with discounted rates, tracking and return labels. A shop that ships most days is past 30 well inside the month, and labels on your own carrier account cost 5¢ each.
FeaturesBRates from 40+ carriers, orders pulled in from Shopify, Etsy, eBay, Amazon and more, bulk labels with shipping rules, customs forms, return labels and, on Pro, branded tracking emails and pick lists. That's the whole job, plus an API.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record. It's a web app, and you connect your stores and set shipping rules before batch printing earns its keep. That's the ordinary amount of setup for this category.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb only, with no phone or desktop app listed, but it connects to Shopify, WooCommerce, Square, Wix, BigCommerce, Etsy, eBay and Amazon, and there's a shipping API. Web with integrations is a B here.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Shippo is for

  • Great if you ship from a Shopify, Etsy or eBay store and want several carriers' rates side by side
  • Handy when you send under 30 parcels a month and want to pay nothing for the software
  • Good for developers who want labels and tracking inside their own app through an API

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want to print labels from a phone, since the listing shows a web app only
  • Tight if you stay free, as Starter stops at 30 labels a month
  • Pricey if you grow well past 200 labels, since Pro rises to $179 a month at 10,000

Good to know

Good for

  • Small online shops shipping from one or more storefronts
  • Sellers who want to start free at low volume
  • Developers adding labels and tracking to their own app

Worth knowing

  • The free Starter plan stops at 30 labels a month and charges 5¢ a label on your own carrier account.
  • Pro tops out at 10,000 labels a month; each label beyond that costs $0.08.
  • Non-US address validation costs 6¢ to 9¢ each, and tracking or rating calls outside Shippo labels are billed at API rates.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Shippo you would be making discounted carrier rates and labels, which take an agreement with each carrier. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It costs $204 a year.

What you could make

  • Reports: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Discounted carrier rates and labels, which take an agreement with each carrier.
  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Shippo’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
