Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 7 of the 13 other e-signature and proposal tools we grade
SignWell sends documents for e-signature with signing order, reminders and a tamper-evident audit trail, and signers need no account. Paid plans charge by the number of senders, with no limit on documents or signers, and an API with 25 free documents a month is included on every plan. A free plan covers one sender and three documents a month.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about SignWell, taken from its own pages and our grades.
It's web only, though, with no phone app and a short list of integrations.
- 1
Best for small teams that want unlimited documents cheaply

One sender, one template and 3 documents a month, with the API, audit trail and tamper-proof documents.
- 4
It runs on Web

The report card
Best for small teams that want unlimited documents cheaply
SignWell keeps it simple: pay per sender and send as many documents as you like. Three people on Business pay $30 a month billed yearly, with unlimited templates, branding and conditional fields, and there's an API on every plan. It's web only, though, with no phone app and a short list of integrations.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | $30 a month for up to three senders on Business, billed yearly ($36 monthly). That's $10 a head for unlimited documents and templates, inside this category's cheapest quarter. A fourth sender adds $12 a month. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The free plan is one sender, one template and 3 documents a month, with the API and the audit trail. Handy for the odd form, nowhere near 20 a month. There's no trial of the paid plans on record. |
| Features | B | Unlimited documents, template links, bulk send, branding, conditional fields, data validation, signer attachments, in-person signing and 50 SMS credits a month on Business. Nothing in the listing shows a gap in the core signing job. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record, and no phone app. It's a web app where you set up your templates and fields once, which is quick enough, but there's still setting up to do. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with Close, QuickBooks Online, Xero and thousands more through Zapier, plus an API with 25 free documents a month on every plan, webhooks and an MCP server. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who SignWell is for
- Great if three of you send lots of contracts and want one flat $30 bill
- A treat if you're a developer, as every plan includes an API with 25 free documents a month
- Handy when you keep your books in QuickBooks Online or Xero
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you sign on your phone a lot, as there's no app
- Tight if you're staying free, at 3 documents and one template a month
- Not for you if you want lots of direct CRM integrations rather than going through Zapier
Good to know
Good for
- Small businesses that send many agreements and do not want envelope limits
- Developers who want e-signing in their own product without a separate plan
- Anyone who signs fewer than 3 documents a month, for free
Worth knowing
- Light keeps you to 5 templates per sender and leaves out branding, conditional fields and in-person signing, which start at Business.
- Extra senders cost $12 a month each on Business billed yearly ($15 monthly), and $10 ($12) on Light.
- API documents beyond 25 a month are charged per document.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of SignWell you could make: documents and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It costs $120 a year.
What you could make
- Documents and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, Zapier, Close and QuickBooks Online among them, and has an API.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: SOC 2 and HIPAA.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. SignWell’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
