2.6

GPA, above 25 of the 30 other website and landing page builders we grade

Strikingly is a website builder for small sites, edited by clicking directly on the page and published to its own hosting with free HTTPS. Plans are bought by the year or month and each covers a set number of sites, from 2 on Limited to 5 on VIP. Pro adds memberships, custom forms and up to 300 products, and VIP adds newsletters, live chat and no transaction fee.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Strikingly, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card

Best for small, quick sites on a small budget

Strikingly is a simple click-on-it-to-change-it builder for small sites, and its first paid plan is cheap: $8 a month on yearly billing with your own domain. That plan is tight, though, at 5 pages and one product with a 5% fee, so a business that wants more pages, no branding or a real shop is looking at Pro at $16.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBLimited is $8 a month on yearly billing ($12 monthly), covering up to 2 sites on your own domain, so it's inside this category's cheapest quarter ($9). It's capped at 5 pages and keeps Strikingly branding; Pro at $16 lifts both.
Free plan and trialCUnlimited free sites with Strikingly branding, which is generous, but none of them can use your own domain. The larger page, storage and store limits all need a paid plan.
FeaturesCClick-to-edit pages, a simple store, memberships, forms, a blog, and newsletters and live chat on VIP. It's sized for small sites, though: 100 pages and 300 products on Pro, and multiple languages only on VIP at $49.
Ease of useB4.56 from about 600 App Store ratings. Pick a template, click on anything you want to change and publish straight away.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb and an iPhone app, with PayPal and Stripe for the store and feeds from Facebook, Instagram and X. No Android or desktop app.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Strikingly is for

  • Great if you need a short personal, portfolio or event site up today
  • Handy when you sell a handful of products and don't want a full store system
  • Good for creators running paid memberships on a small budget

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're on Limited, with 5 pages, one product and a 5% fee on each sale
  • Too light for a big shop, as even VIP stops at 500 products
  • Not for you if you switch plans a lot, since that goes through email support and yearly can't go back to monthly

Good to know

Good for

  • Short personal, portfolio or event sites that need to go up quickly
  • Small shops selling a handful of products
  • Creators running paid memberships on a small budget

Worth knowing

  • Limited keeps Strikingly branding, allows only 5 pages per site and one product, and charges a 5% transaction fee.
  • Store fees run 5% on Limited and 2% on Pro; only VIP lists 0%, though the page also advertises a limited-time 0% fee lock for new upgrades.
  • Phone support, a dedicated account manager and multi-language sites are VIP-only.
  • Plan changes go through email support, and a yearly plan cannot be moved back to monthly billing.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Strikingly you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.6 is higher than 25 of the 30 other website and landing page builders we grade. It costs $96 a year.

What you could make

  • Templates and forms: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
  • A chat box on your site that reaches you the moment a customer types.
  • A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, PayPal, Stripe and Facebook among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.

What this rests on. Strikingly’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
