Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 54 of the 79 other project management tools we grade

Taiga is an open-source project management tool for agile teams. A project can run as a Kanban board or as Scrum with a backlog, sprints and burndown charts, and can switch between the two; issue tracking, a wiki and dashboards are built in. It is offered as a hosted service with flat monthly plans that do not charge per user, or as software to install on your own servers.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Taiga, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating on record, and the work is yours: a backlog to fill, workflows and issue types to shape before the boards mean anything.

The report card

Best for agile teams who want Scrum and Kanban at a flat price

Taiga is open-source project management for agile teams, with Kanban or Scrum boards, a backlog, sprints and burndown charts, and hosted plans priced flat with unlimited users from €5 a month. Projects and storage are tight: free is 1 private project and 10 MB, and Premium stops at 3 GB. There's no time tracking or Gantt chart on record, no phone or desktop app, and prices are in euros only.

ToolGPA report cardTaigaGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAEnthusiast is €5 a month for the whole team, not per user, and unlimited projects is €20 flat. Split across even three people that's well under $3.06, which is 60% of the cheapest quarter here. Storage is the squeeze: 100 MB, then 500 MB.
Free plan and trialBA free plan one small team could live on, two ways. The hosted tier takes unlimited users but only 1 public and 1 private project with 10 MB of storage, and the open-source software itself is free to run on your own server.
FeaturesCIt covers agile work and stops there: Kanban with swimlanes, WIP limits, epics and sub-tasks, Scrum with a backlog, estimates per role and burndown charts, issue tracking, a wiki and dashboards. What the listing doesn't show is time tracking or a Gantt chart, both ordinary elsewhere here.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and the work is yours: a backlog to fill, workflows and issue types to shape before the boards mean anything. The hosted service at least spares you a server, and a project can start as Kanban and turn into Scrum later. Self-hosting means Docker.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb with integrations: a public REST API, outgoing webhooks, built-in Slack, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Gogs, and a Zapier connector. The vendor's site mentions no desktop or mobile app, so the browser is all there is.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Taiga is for

  • Fits if you're an agile team running Scrum or Kanban, or moving between the two
  • Makes sense if you want to self-host an open-source tool, or pay one flat fee however many users join

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, with 1 public and 1 private project and 10 MB of storage
  • Skip it if you want a phone or desktop app, because Taiga runs only in the browser
  • Not for you if you bill by the hour or plan on a Gantt chart, as neither time tracking nor a Gantt view is listed
  • Watch out: storage stops at 100 MB on €5, 500 MB on €20 and 3 GB on €60, and anything bigger is a sales quote
  • Watch out: self-hosting means running Docker, and prices are listed in euros only

Good to know

Good for

  • Agile teams running Scrum or Kanban, or moving between the two
  • Growing teams on a fixed budget, since hosted plans are flat-rate with unlimited users
  • Organizations that want to self-host an open-source tool

Worth knowing

  • Hosted plans are limited by projects and storage rather than users: Free allows 1 public and 1 private project with 10 MB of storage.
  • The largest self-serve hosted plan, Premium, stops at 3 GB of storage. A dedicated instance or on-premise support is quoted by sales.
  • Prices are listed in euros only.
  • The vendor's site mentions no desktop or mobile apps; Taiga is used in a web browser.

It stands best on value for money (A, above 68 of 79) and worst on features (C, above 1).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Taiga you could make: kanban boards, issue tracking and wiki. What surrounds it you could not. The 2 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 54 of the 79 other project management tools we grade. It costs $67.24 a year. Taiga is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.

What you could make

  • Kanban boards, issue tracking and wiki: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack, GitHub and GitLab among them, and has an API.

What this rests on. Taiga’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
