How we grade them

3.4GPAOpenProjectVery good3.4GPATaigaVery good
Value for money
BCloud Basic is $7.25 a user a month billed yearly, or $8.50 monthly, about typical for this category, with a 5-user minimum. The steps up come with bigger minimums: Professional is $13.50 from 25 users and Premium $19.50 from 100.
AEnthusiast is €5 a month for unlimited users, not per user, or €50 for the year. Unlimited projects is Basic at €20, still flat. Most rivals charge more than that for one seat. Storage is the squeeze: 100 MB on Enthusiast and 500 MB on Basic.
Free plan and trial
BFree only if you host it. The Community edition has no user minimum and includes Gantt charts, agile boards, Scrum backlogs, time tracking, wiki and meetings, with community support only. There's no free cloud plan, just a 14-day trial of the Enterprise cloud.
BThe free hosted plan has unlimited users but only 1 public and 1 private project and 10 MB of storage. Fine for one small project, tight for anything more. The open-source software is free to self-host if you'd rather run it yourself.
Features
AWork packages on Gantt charts with relations and automatic or manual scheduling. Kanban boards, a product backlog, sprint boards and burndown charts. Time and costs tracked against budgets, meeting agendas linked to the work, and a wiki. Most of that is in the free edition.
AKanban boards with swimlanes, WIP limits, epics and sub-tasks. Scrum with a backlog, sprint planning, estimates per role and burndown charts. Issue tracking with your own types, priorities and severities, plus a wiki and dashboards. For an agile team that's the whole job.
Ease of use
BThere's no App Store rating on record for it, so a B is as high as we go. The paid cloud is hosted for you in the EU. The free edition is a server job: DEB or RPM packages, Docker, Kubernetes or Helm charts on Linux.
BNo app rating on record, so a B at best. The hosted service means no server to run, and a project can start as Kanban and switch to Scrum later. Self-hosting is there too, with Docker as the recommended route, and that's a bigger job.
Platforms and integrations
AWeb, with iPhone and Android apps. The apps are in beta, and the vendor calls them companions to the web application. It connects to Nextcloud, GitHub, GitLab and Excel, with OneDrive, SharePoint and an MCP server from Professional.
BIt's used in a web browser, and the vendor's site mentions no desktop or mobile apps. It has a public REST API and outgoing webhooks, built-in integrations for Slack, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Gogs, and a Zapier connector.
