Tasks.org is an open-source to-do list and reminders app for Android, built on the code of the discontinued Astrid app. It works offline with no account, and can sync with Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, a CalDAV server, EteSync or the maker's own Tasks.org Cloud. Desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux are in alpha and are unlocked by a subscription.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Tasks.org, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card
Best for a free Android list that syncs your way
Tasks.org is an open-source to-do app for Android that works offline with no account, and the free version has no ads and syncs with Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do. Pay from $0.99 a year to sync with your own CalDAV server. But there's no iPhone or web app, the desktop apps are alpha and need a subscription, and its own Cloud sync and sharing cost $29.99 a year. Skip it if you have an iPhone.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | The Android app is free and does the whole job, so there's nothing you have to buy. If you want more, you name your own price from $0.99 a year, and Tasks.org Cloud is $29.99 a year or $2.99 monthly, both under this category's $3.99 a month middle plan. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Free on Android with no account: unlimited tasks, lists, tags and reminders, recurring tasks, location reminders, and sync with Google Tasks and Microsoft To Do. No ads either. There's no cap here a normal person would reach. |
| Features | B | Subtasks nested as deep as you like, filters, manual sorting, repeats and reminders tied to a place. Then the sync choices: Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, CalDAV, EteSync or its own Cloud, which adds sharing with up to five guests and an email-to-task inbox. The whole job, on Android. |
| Ease of use | B | Install it and start a list, with no account and no internet needed. Hooking it to your own CalDAV server or DAVx⁵ takes more doing, but that's a choice. There's no rating on record to go by, so it stops at a B. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Android, plus desktop apps for Mac, Windows and Linux that are labeled alpha and need a subscription. It syncs with a lot: Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, CalDAV, EteSync. But there's no iPhone or web app. Apple devices get there through Apple Reminders over CalDAV. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Tasks.org is for
- Fits if you're on Android and want a to-do app with no account and no ads
- Works for tasks that already live in Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do or your own CalDAV server
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you have an iPhone, as there's no iOS app and no web app either
- Not for you if you need a finished desktop app, because the Mac, Windows and Linux ones are alpha and need a subscription
- Tight if you want custom themes or CalDAV sync for free on Google Play, as both need a subscription
- Pricey if you want its own Cloud sync, list sharing or the email inbox, at $29.99 a year or $2.99 monthly
- Watch out: the maker says the desktop apps will take a while to match the Android app
Good to know
Good for
- Android users who want a task list that works with no account
- People syncing tasks with their own CalDAV server or EteSync
- Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do users who want a fuller Android client
Worth knowing
- There is no iPhone or web app. Apple devices reach Tasks.org lists through Apple Reminders over CalDAV.
- The desktop apps are labeled alpha and need a subscription, and the maker says matching the Android app's features will take a while.
- Tasks.org Cloud sync needs the $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year subscription; the name-your-price tier does not include it.
- On Google Play installs, custom themes and icons and sync through DAVx⁵, CalDAV or EteSync all need a subscription.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Tasks.org you could make: tasks. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.4 is higher than 117 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade. It costs $0.99 a year. Tasks.org is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.
What you could make
- Tasks: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It plugs into other products, Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do and DAVx⁵ among them.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Tasks.org’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
