The report card
Best for WhatsApp-heavy service teams in Europe
Trengo is a shared inbox built around WhatsApp, with email, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, chat and SMS beside it, an AI agent and a help center. It's priced in euros as one flat fee for up to 10 people, which is fine for a team of eight and steep for two. And it runs in a browser only, with no phone or desktop app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Boost is €299 a month billed yearly (€349 monthly) for up to 10 users, so a team of five pays about €60 a head, well above the dearest tenth of help desks at $39. On your own, it's the full €299. It does include 6,000 conversations a year and the WhatsApp API. |
| Free plan and trial | C | A 7-day free trial with no card needed, which is short for a tool this costly. There's no free plan after it. |
| Features | B | One inbox for email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, chat and SMS, the HelpMate AI agent, a help center, multi-step automations and links to stores, CRMs and booking sites. Phone calling is an add-on, but the job is covered. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record. You connect the WhatsApp Business API and each other channel, then set up AI flows, and the AI Journeys part is still marked as a beta. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | It runs in a browser only, with no app for phones or computers, though you can add it to a phone's home screen. The connections help: Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Booking.com and Airbnb, plus an API. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Trengo is for
- Great if most of your customers reach you on WhatsApp
- Handy when you run a hotel, holiday let or tour business on Booking.com or Airbnb
- Good for teams of eight to ten who want one fixed monthly bill
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you're a team of two or three, as the €299 covers 10 users either way
- Skip it if you answer customers from your phone and want a proper app
- Tight if you're busy, since past 6,000 conversations a year it's €15 per 100 more
Good to know
Good for
- European businesses that handle much of their service over WhatsApp
- Hospitality, travel and leisure companies using booking platforms
- Teams of up to 10 or 20 people who want one fixed monthly price
Worth knowing
- Prices are set in euros; the dollar view on the pricing page converts them at a live exchange rate.
- Conversations past the allowance cost €18 per 100 billed monthly (€15 yearly); AI-handled ones add €0.30 each (€0.25 yearly).
- Extra users cost €30 a month on Boost and €50 on Pro (€25 and €40 yearly); broadcasting and phone calling are add-ons.
- There are no native apps: Trengo runs in a browser and can be added to a phone's home screen.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Trengo you would be making one mailbox that several people work at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 14 of the 19 other help desk and live chat tools grade higher. It costs $4,020.71 a year.
What you could make
- Help center: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- One mailbox that several people work at once.
- An AI model answering your customers from your own help articles.
- A chat box on your site that reaches you the moment a customer types.
- It plugs into other products, Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento 2 among them, and has an API.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Trengo’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
