Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 8 of the 33 other team communication apps we grade
Troop Messenger is a business chat app covering one-to-one and group messaging, audio and video calls, screen sharing and file sharing. It is aimed at security-conscious organizations: the vendor describes chats and calls as end-to-end encrypted, and the product can be bought as a cloud service or hosted on a company's own servers. Extras include self-destructing Burnout chats, bulk Forkout messages and guest access through Orange Member.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Troop Messenger, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for chat from $2.50 a user that you can host yourself
The vendor's FAQ says video and screen sharing don't work in the UAE, and integrations stop at Google Drive and Dropbox.
- 2
Paid plans start at $2.50 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $2.50 per user / month.
- 3
You can try it first
7-day free trial of the Enterprise plan
- 4
It runs on 6 platforms
Web, macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.
- 5
Messaging and groups
One-to-one and group chats with replies, forwarding, message edit and recall, and voice and video messages. Airtime groups let only admins and moderators post.
- 6
Audio and video calls
1:1 and group audio-video calls with screen sharing, plus Join Now for entering a group call already in progress. Group calling and screen sharing are Enterprise features.
- 7
Burnout
A one-to-one private chat window for confidential exchanges. Its messages vanish when a preset timer runs out and no chat backup is kept.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 8 of 33
That is against the other team communication apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Troop Messenger you would be making chat that a whole team counts on staying up. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for chat from $2.50 a user that you can host yourself
Troop Messenger is business chat with calls, screen sharing and timed Burnout chats that vanish, from $2.50 a user, hosted or on your own servers. There's no free plan, only a 7-day trial, and Premium does audio and 1:1 video only, so group calls, screen sharing, Burnout and SSO need Enterprise at $5. The vendor's FAQ says video and screen sharing don't work in the UAE, and integrations stop at Google Drive and Dropbox.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Premium is $2.50 a user a month, in the cheapest quarter of team chat and well under the $7 the category typically starts at, with 150 GB of storage. Enterprise is $5, still under that middle figure, and schools and NGOs can apply for 70% off it. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan at all. What's on offer is a 7-day trial of Enterprise, which is a week to make your mind up about a chat app your whole team has to move into. Education and NGO applicants get 15 days instead. |
| Features | C | Its own extras: Burnout chats that vanish on a timer with no backup, Forkout for sending one message to many groups, Orange Member guests, AI file summaries. But Premium does audio and 1:1 video only, group calls and screen sharing are Enterprise, and the vendor's FAQ says neither works in the UAE. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. The hosted version is a normal sign-up, but there's still a workspace to build, with groups, Airtime posting rules and guest accounts, and the on-premise route puts a server in somebody's hands. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, and you can host it yourself with LDAP, Active Directory and SSO on Enterprise. The connecting is bare, though: Google Drive and Dropbox are the only integrations listed, and no public API is on record. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Troop Messenger is for
- Fits if your team wants chat and calls for $2.50 to $5 a user a month
- Works for organizations that want to host their chat on their own servers
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want a free plan, as all that's offered is a 7-day trial
- Tight if you're on Premium and need group calls, screen sharing, Burnout or SSO, which are Enterprise only
- Not for you if your team is in the UAE, where the FAQ says video calling and screen sharing don't work
- Too light for teams that connect lots of apps, as Google Drive and Dropbox are the only integrations and no API is listed
- Watch out: the Superior tier for 500+ users is marked coming soon, and the vendor's pages disagree on its price
Good to know
Good for
- Organizations that want to host their chat on their own servers
- Government and defense organizations, a segment the vendor targets directly
- Teams looking for chat and calls at a low per-user price
Worth knowing
- No free plan is shown: the pricing page offers a 7-day trial of the Enterprise plan.
- Screen sharing, group calling, Burnout and LDAP/SSO need the Enterprise plan; Premium has audio calls and 1:1 video calls only.
- A Superior tier for 500+ users is marked as coming soon on the pricing page, and the vendor's own pages disagree on its price.
- The vendor's FAQ says video calling and screen sharing do not work in the UAE.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Troop Messenger you would be making chat that a whole team counts on staying up. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 14 of the 33 other team communication apps grade higher. It costs $30 a year.
What you could not
- Chat that a whole team counts on staying up.
- Video calls.
- Storing and serving files for other people.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- End-to-end encryption done properly.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on.
What this rests on. Troop Messenger’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
