Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 2 of the 27 other voice dictation apps we grade

Voicy is a speech-to-text app that types what you say into whichever app or website has the cursor. It runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, with a Chrome extension for the browser. Speech is processed in the cloud, punctuation and formatting are added automatically, and a Rewrite mode edits text with AI. The company, founded in London in 2024, says it does not keep recordings or transcripts in its database.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Voicy, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No App Store rating on record for it, and nothing to set up: press the shortcut and talk, with no spoken punctuation to remember.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for one dictation plan for computer, browser and phone

Voicy runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android and Chrome, all for $8.49 a month on as many personal devices as you like, with punctuation added and an AI Rewrite mode.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $8.49 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $8.49 per month, billed monthly ($82 billed annually).

  3. 3

    You can try it first

Free trial with 30 minutes of recording time and every feature; no credit card required.

  4. 4

    It runs on 5 platforms

macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.

  5. 5

    Dictation in any app

Press a keyboard shortcut and speak, and the text appears where the cursor is: in Word, Outlook, Slack, a browser or a terminal. More than 50 languages are detected automatically.

  6. 6

    Automatic punctuation and formatting

Punctuation and formatting are added to the transcript without spoken cues. The changelog also lists punctuation commands and finer control over formatting rules.

  7. 7

    Rewrite mode and custom modes

Rewrite mode uses AI to edit or rewrite text and shows its response in a floating window. Custom modes can be created, and one can be set to run by default.

  8. 8

    A 2.4 GPA, above 2 of 27

That is against the other voice dictation apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Voicy you would be making dictation that types into any app on your computer. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for one dictation plan for computer, browser and phone

Voicy runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android and Chrome, all for $8.49 a month on as many personal devices as you like, with punctuation added and an AI Rewrite mode. But it's cloud only with no offline mode, there's no free plan beyond a 30-minute trial, lifetime is $260 with a 7-day refund window, and Team pricing hides its billing basis.

ToolGPA report cardVoicyGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPro is $8.49 a month, or $82 for the year, which is the ordinary middle for dictation apps. What you get for it is unlimited recording on unlimited personal devices. The $260 lifetime is another way to pay, not a cheaper one: that's about three years of Pro.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan. The trial is 30 minutes of recording with every feature and no credit card, which Voicy puts down to what cloud processing costs. Half an hour of talking goes quickly.
FeaturesCA shortcut types wherever the cursor is in 50+ languages, punctuation added for you, Rewrite mode, custom modes, a dictionary and file transcription. But there's no offline mode at all, as Voicy's own comparison tables say, so a patchy connection means no dictation.
Ease of useBNo App Store rating on record for it, and nothing to set up: press the shortcut and talk, with no spoken punctuation to remember. On iPhone it's a keyboard you switch to.
Platforms and integrationsBMac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, and the Chrome extension also runs in Brave, Edge, Opera, Arc and Vivaldi. Computer and both phones, then. No API and no integrations on record, which is what keeps it off an A.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Voicy is for

  • Fits if you want the same dictation on your laptop, your browser and your phone for one price
  • Works for students and people with disabilities, who can ask for 20% off every plan

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you need dictation with no connection, because there's no offline mode
  • Not for you if you want a free plan, as the trial ends after 30 minutes of recording
  • Pricey if you go lifetime on a whim, at $260 with a money-back window of only 7 days
  • Watch out: the Team plan needs at least 3 users, and the page doesn't say whether $6.79 is monthly or annual
  • Not for you if you need an API or integrations, as none are on record

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want one dictation plan across computer, browser and phone
  • Dictating long emails, documents and AI prompts
  • Students and people with disabilities, who can ask for 20% off

Worth knowing

  • There is no free plan. The trial ends after 30 minutes of recording time, which Voicy attributes to the cost of cloud processing.
  • It has no offline mode, as the vendor's own comparison tables state; speech is transcribed in the cloud.
  • The Team plan needs at least 3 users, and the page does not say whether its $6.79 price is billed monthly or annually.
  • The money-back guarantee covers only the first 7 days after purchase.

It stands best on platforms and integrations (B, above 18 of 27) and worst on features (C, above 0).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Voicy you would be making dictation that types into any app on your computer. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 20 of the 27 other voice dictation apps grade higher. It costs $101.88 a year.

What you could not

  • Dictation that types into any app on your computer.
  • Speech turned into text you can trust.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. Voicy’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
