Who each one suits
Voice In
- People who do most of their writing in web apps inside Chrome or Edge
- Dictating into web-based email, help desk and CRM tools
- Users who want voice shortcuts for text they type repeatedly
Voicy
- People who want one dictation plan across computer, browser and phone
- Dictating long emails, documents and AI prompts
- Students and people with disabilities, who can ask for 20% off
Worth knowing
Voice In
- It works only inside Chrome and Edge: not in desktop apps such as Word, and not in Firefox, Brave or Vivaldi.
- The free version is capped at 60 minutes a day and stops listening after 20 seconds of silence; Advanced Mode and custom voice commands need Plus.
- It needs an internet connection and does not work offline.
- Dictanote says it has never offered a HIPAA business associate agreement, because speech recognition is done by the browser.
Voicy
- There is no free plan. The trial ends after 30 minutes of recording time, which Voicy attributes to the cost of cloud processing.
- It has no offline mode, as the vendor's own comparison tables state; speech is transcribed in the cloud.
- The Team plan needs at least 3 users, and the page does not say whether its $6.79 price is billed monthly or annually.
- The money-back guarantee covers only the first 7 days after purchase.
Key features
Voice In
- Dictation in web text boxes
- Place the cursor in a text box, right-click and choose Start Recording, and speech is typed in real time. The site lists Gmail, Google Docs, Outlook on the web, WhatsApp and ChatGPT among supported sites.
- Advanced Mode
- A Plus feature that inserts text with a different strategy, so dictation works on sites with complex editors such as Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Zendesk and HubSpot.
- Custom voice commands
- With Plus, a spoken phrase can insert saved text such as a signature, or run an action such as pressing Tab, switching the dictation language or opening a URL.
- AI Transforms
- Select dictated text and apply the built-in Polish style or one custom prompt of your own. Only the selected text is sent to an AI model, and Dictanote says it is not stored.
- Dictation Box and multi-tab dictation
- Plus adds a small box on the page to dictate into before copying text across, and keeps dictation running when you switch tabs. In the free version it stops on a tab change.
- Transcription by the browser
- Voice In uses the speech-to-text API built into Chrome or Edge. Dictanote states that no audio or transcript is sent to its own servers.
Voicy
- Dictation in any app
- Press a keyboard shortcut and speak, and the text appears where the cursor is: in Word, Outlook, Slack, a browser or a terminal. More than 50 languages are detected automatically.
- Automatic punctuation and formatting
- Punctuation and formatting are added to the transcript without spoken cues. The changelog also lists punctuation commands and finer control over formatting rules.
- Rewrite mode and custom modes
- Rewrite mode uses AI to edit or rewrite text and shows its response in a floating window. Custom modes can be created, and one can be set to run by default.
- Dictionary and text replacement
- The app includes a dictionary, doubled in size in version 2.4.5, and a text replacement mode that also handles multi-line replacements.
- File transcription
- Besides live dictation, Voicy transcribes existing audio files. The feature arrived in version 2.2.0 in May 2026.
- Phone keyboard and browser extension
- On iPhone, a Voicy keyboard dictates into any app. The Chrome extension also works in Brave, Edge, Opera, Arc and Vivaldi.
