Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 12 of the 51 other keyword research tools we grade
Wordtracker is a keyword research tool that returns long lists of keyword ideas with search volume, trends and competition metrics for Google, Amazon, YouTube and eBay across 200+ territories. A domain tool shows the keywords bringing traffic to a competitor's site, ranking lists follow a site's positions, and a Search Console connection adds your own query data. A separate keyword API is sold on its own.
To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Wordtracker, taken from its own pages and our grades.
A search is simple, but ranking lists, competitor comparisons and the Search Console link all need setting up before they tell you much.

The report card
Best for keyword research beyond Google on a yearly budget
Wordtracker is a web keyword tool with ideas, volume, trends and competition for Google, Amazon, YouTube and eBay, and a domain tool for a rival's keywords. There's no free plan, only a $10 first month with no exports that rolls onto a paid plan. Monthly billing costs far more than yearly, rank tracking stops at 200 keywords on Bronze, and the API is a separate product.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Bronze is $195 a year, about $17 a month, or $24 paid monthly, which is mid-table for this category. That includes 500 searches a day and a ranking list of 200 keywords. Monthly billing gets steep higher up: Gold is $99 a month against $640 a year. |
| Free plan and trial | D | No free plan. Visitors get a few searches, then the way in is a $10 first month that rolls onto the plan you chose, and you can't export during it. |
| Features | B | Keyword ideas with volume, 12-month trends and competition for Google, Amazon, YouTube and eBay in 200+ territories, a domain tool for rivals' keywords, ranking lists and SERP previews. That covers the whole job. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. A search is simple, but ranking lists, competitor comparisons and the Search Console link all need setting up before they tell you much. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, plus the Scout browser extension, with no desktop or phone app. It links to Google Search Console, and a keyword API is sold separately from $60 a month. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Wordtracker is for
- Fits if you sell on Amazon or eBay, or make YouTube videos, and want keywords from there too
- Works for a site owner paying $195 a year for research plus a 200-keyword ranking list
Who it is not for
- Not for you if you want to try it free, as the first month costs $10 and rolls onto a paid plan
- Pricey if you pay monthly: Bronze is $24 against about $17 yearly, and Gold $99 against $54
- Tight if you track lots of rankings, as Bronze covers 200 keywords and Silver 1,000
- Watch out: you can't export anything during the $10 trial month
- Watch out: the keyword API is a separate product at $60 a month for 500 calls, then $0.05 a call
Good to know
Good for
- Site owners who want keyword ideas and some rank tracking at a low annual price
- Researching Amazon, YouTube and eBay keywords as well as Google

Worth knowing
- There is no free plan: visitors get a few searches, then the first month costs $10 before rolling onto a paid plan.
- Exports are not available during the $10 trial month.
- Rank tracking is limited to 200 keywords on Bronze and 1,000 on Silver.
- The keyword API is a separate product: $60 a month for 500 calls, then $0.05 per call, with custom plans from $500 a month.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Wordtracker you would be making search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 29 of the 51 other keyword research tools grade higher. It costs $204 a year.
What you could not
- Search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date.
- Daily checks of where your pages rank in search results.
- It plugs into other products, Google Search Console among them, and has an API.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Wordtracker’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
