How we grade them

Value for money
A$7.99 once covers iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and the Mac app is another $14.99. Both together cost about what six months of a typical to-do subscription does. Features released after your first year need an optional Upgrade Pass, $4.99 a year on iOS, and anything unlocked stays if you stop.
BPro is $1.99 a month or $19.99 a year, which is cheap. But it mostly buys you no ads, iCloud sync and extra icons and sounds, so it's not a lot for the money. Pro can be shared with your family through their Apple IDs.
Free plan and trial
FNothing is free. Due is a paid download with no free version and no trial, so the $7.99 comes before you've set a single reminder.
AThe free version does the whole job: repeating reminders with sounds, colours and icons. You put up with ads, and each device runs separately with no sync. Plenty of people could stay here.
Features
BIt does one job, reminders, and does it fully. Auto Snooze re-notifies you every 1 to 60 minutes, 5 times by default and up to 10. Preset buttons postpone in a tap, repeats get as fussy as the third Wednesday of each month, and timers are reusable. But it's reminders and timers, not lists or projects.
BIt only does repeating reminders, and it does them fully. Pick a time, the weekdays, a sound, and an optional warning bell 5 minutes ahead. Mute one nudge or the lot for a day off. One limit: iOS holds at most 64 pending reminders for the app.
Ease of use
A4.7 from about 2,800 App Store ratings. Type or dictate "at 9am tomorrow" and it offers that as the due date. There's no Due account to set up, and reminders fire without an internet connection.
BWe have no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. A nudge is a name, a time, some weekdays and a sound, so there's very little to learn. Siri can make one without opening the app.
Platforms and integrations
CiPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, synced through your own iCloud or Dropbox, plus Siri. All Apple. The Watch app is a companion that needs the paired iPhone, and the Mac app is a separate purchase.
CiPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision, with widgets and Siri. That's the Apple family and nothing else. There's no Android, Windows or web version.

Who each one suits

Due

  • People who dismiss a notification and then forget the task
  • Time-bound reminders such as medication, bills and chores
  • Buyers who prefer a one-time purchase on Apple devices

Nudge

  • Chores and routines that repeat by weekday and never reach a calendar
  • Medication, pet care and school pickup times
  • People who want an alarm-style reminder set up in a few taps

Worth knowing

Due

  • Apple devices only: Due is sold for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac.
  • Due for macOS ($14.99) and Due for iOS ($7.99) are separate purchases.
  • Features released more than a year after purchase need the optional Upgrade Pass: $4.99 a year on iOS, $9.99 on Mac.
  • The Apple Watch app is a companion that requires the paired iPhone to work.

Nudge

  • Apple devices only: the App Store lists iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision, with no Android, Windows or web version.
  • The free version shows ads, and syncing nudges between devices through iCloud needs the Pro subscription.
  • Nudges are set by time and day of the week; the vendor says the app is not meant to replace a calendar for meetings and appointments.
  • The release notes say iOS holds at most 64 pending reminders for the app; it now warns when a schedule outgrows that limit.

Key features

Due

Auto Snooze
An overdue reminder keeps notifying you until it is marked done or rescheduled, at intervals from 1 to 60 minutes. It repeats 5 times by default and up to 10 if configured.
Quick access times
A time picker with 12 customizable preset buttons sets or postpones a due date in one tap, and can add or subtract time from the current date.
Natural date parsing
Dates and times that you type or dictate are recognized and offered as the due date, for example "at 9am tomorrow".
Recurring reminders
Repeats range from daily and weekly to patterns such as the third Wednesday of each month or every 3 months after completion.
Reusable countdown timers
Timers are precise to the second, several can run at once, and a timer set up once is kept for reuse.
iCloud or Dropbox sync
Reminders and timers sync between iPhone, iPad and Mac through your own iCloud or Dropbox account. There is no Due account, and reminders fire without an internet connection.

Nudge

Reminders that repeat by weekday
Each nudge has a time of day and repeats on any day or mix of days of the week, such as every day, weekdays only or weekends.
Sounds and a 5-minute warning
A nudge plays a sound picked from a built-in library, from short and subtle to loud, and an optional warning bell can ring 5 minutes ahead of it.
Names, colors and icons
Every nudge is given a name, a color and an icon so it can be recognized at a glance. Pro unlocks more icons and sounds.
Mute one nudge or all of them
A single nudge, or the whole schedule, can be muted for a day off without deleting any of the alarms.
Widgets and Siri
A Home Screen widget shows the day's schedule, Lock Screen widgets are also listed, and Siri can create a nudge without opening the app.
iCloud sync on Pro
Pro keeps nudges in step across iPhone, iPad and Mac through iCloud. The free version runs on each device separately.
