Who each one suits
Nudge
- Chores and routines that repeat by weekday and never reach a calendar
- Medication, pet care and school pickup times
- People who want an alarm-style reminder set up in a few taps
Recurrence
- Chores, bills and renewals that come around on a schedule
- Keeping a record of when something was last done
- Couples or families sharing recurring tasks on Apple devices
Worth knowing
Nudge
- Apple devices only: the App Store lists iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision, with no Android, Windows or web version.
- The free version shows ads, and syncing nudges between devices through iCloud needs the Pro subscription.
- Nudges are set by time and day of the week; the vendor says the app is not meant to replace a calendar for meetings and appointments.
- The release notes say iOS holds at most 64 pending reminders for the app; it now warns when a schedule outgrows that limit.
Recurrence
- The free version stops at five tasks; more needs Premium or the $19.99 Lifetime Unlock.
- Apple devices only: the App Store listing covers iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision, with no Android, Windows or web version.
- Sync and sharing run through iCloud; the support page says devices must use the same Apple ID and have free iCloud storage.
- The App Store listing gives English as the app's only language.
Key features
Nudge
- Reminders that repeat by weekday
- Each nudge has a time of day and repeats on any day or mix of days of the week, such as every day, weekdays only or weekends.
- Sounds and a 5-minute warning
- A nudge plays a sound picked from a built-in library, from short and subtle to loud, and an optional warning bell can ring 5 minutes ahead of it.
- Names, colors and icons
- Every nudge is given a name, a color and an icon so it can be recognized at a glance. Pro unlocks more icons and sounds.
- Mute one nudge or all of them
- A single nudge, or the whole schedule, can be muted for a day off without deleting any of the alarms.
- Widgets and Siri
- A Home Screen widget shows the day's schedule, Lock Screen widgets are also listed, and Siri can create a nudge without opening the app.
- iCloud sync on Pro
- Pro keeps nudges in step across iPhone, iPad and Mac through iCloud. The free version runs on each device separately.
Recurrence
- Custom repeat schedules
- Tasks repeat on a schedule or from their last completion, and a lock can stop a task from being checked off before it is due. One-time tasks and pausing a task are also supported.
- Completion history and notes
- Every item lists its past completions, and notes can be attached to the item or to a single completion for later reference.
- Sharing through iCloud
- Items can be shared with a spouse, friend or family member so that either person can complete them.
- Widgets and notifications
- Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show upcoming items, and notifications can be set to arrive before and after a due date.
- Categories, filters and search
- Items are sorted into custom categories with their own colors, an item can belong to several categories, and the list can be filtered and searched.
- Siri Shortcuts
- Shortcuts mark a task as completed by voice, and a shortcut added in version 10 returns the list of due and overdue items.
