How we grade them

|---|---|---|
| Value for money | CAn hour of voiceover a month means Creator: $18.33 a month billed yearly ($22 monthly) for 121,000 credits, about 121 minutes of speech. Starter at $5 covers only about 30 minutes. That's the middle of what this category charges, and dubbing and music eat the same credits. | CAs a reader, Plus is $9.92 a month billed yearly ($20.90 monthly), a bit under Speechify's Premium. For voiceovers you need Commercial Starter: $16.5 a month billed yearly for 500,000 credits, spent per character at a rate that depends on the voice. Middle of the road both ways. |
| Free plan and trial | C10,000 credits a month, about 10 minutes of speech, and 3 Studio projects. But there's no commercial license and no cloning, so nothing you make on it can go in a video you publish. Fine for hearing the voices, not for the job. | BGraded as a reader, it's one you can live on: unlimited listening with the free voices, plus 5 minutes a day of the better ones, and no card needed. For voiceovers it's no use, as it's personal use only with no MP3 downloads. |
| Features | AText to speech in 70+ languages, instant and professional cloning, voices designed from a prompt, dubbing, a long-form Studio, transcription, music, sound effects and voice agents. Nothing else here covers as much, and nothing in the listing shows a gap. | BIt reads PDFs, Word files, ePubs, web pages and photographed pages aloud, turns documents into podcast-style episodes and quizzes, and has a Commercial app with Gemini, OpenAI, Azure and ElevenLabs voices and cloning. Both jobs are covered, in separate apps. |
| Ease of use | A4.84 from 22,674 App Store ratings, the best in this category. Paste text, pick a voice, press play. Working out what each product costs in credits is the only fiddly part. | B4.55 from 9,134 App Store ratings. Open a document and press play. The only confusing part is that reading and voiceovers are two apps with two subscriptions. |
| Platforms and integrations | BWeb, iPhone and Android, with an API and SDKs, and Zapier, Make, n8n, Salesforce and Zendesk connections. No desktop app, which an A needs. | BWeb, iPhone, Android, a Chrome extension, and Windows and Mac software. That's every device, but no API or integrations are listed, which keeps it off an A. |
| Best for | AI voiceovers that sound like people | listening to documents, with voiceovers on the side |

Worth knowing
ElevenLabs
- The Free plan has no commercial license or voice cloning; both start on Starter, and Professional Voice Cloning starts on Creator.
- One credit pool covers every product: text to speech costs about 1 credit per character, and dubbing 2,000 to 10,000 credits per minute.
- Professional Voice Clones are limited to your own voice and need a voice check; for instant clones you must confirm you have the right and consent.
- Unused credits roll over for up to two months on paid plans, but downgrading or cancelling forfeits them at the end of the cycle.
NaturalReader
- Audio from the Free, Plus and Pro plans is for private listening only; publishing it, even for internal training or a nonprofit, needs a Commercial plan.
- Commercial is a separate app and subscription, and its downloads need a paid plan. Commercial subscriptions are non-refundable.
- Paid personal plans cap MP3 conversion at 1 million characters a month, and Commercial credits are spent per character at a rate that varies by voice.
- The desktop software is sold apart from the subscriptions, as one-time licenses of $99.50, $129.50 or $199.50.
