Worth knowing

Microsoft PowerPoint

  • The Windows and Mac apps need a Microsoft 365 subscription or a one-time Office purchase; Microsoft lists the free plan for web, iOS and Android.
  • PowerPoint for the web lacks some desktop features: password-protected and digitally signed files open only in the desktop app, and macros do not run.
  • Copilot needs a paid subscription, has usage limits, and on shared plans works for the subscription owner only.
  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic ($7.00 per user / month paid yearly, or $5.40 without Teams) includes only the web and mobile versions of PowerPoint.

Visme

  • The free Basic plan caps each project at 50 slides or pages, has 500 MB of storage and keeps the Visme logo on projects.
  • Brand Kit, analytics, privacy controls, password protection and editable PowerPoint export start at Pro; the Starter PPTX download is not editable.
  • Single sign-on, project approvals, custom roles and SCORM/xAPI export are Enterprise only, and Enterprise starts at 10 users.
  • The mobile and tablet apps are for iOS; the download page lists Android as coming soon.

Key features

Microsoft PowerPoint

Copilot in PowerPoint
Rewrites, reorganizes and adds slides from a written request, leaving the changes for review. It needs a Microsoft 365 subscription, and usage limits apply.
Designer
Suggests finished layouts for the content placed on a slide. In the desktop apps only Microsoft 365 subscribers get the suggestions; in PowerPoint for the web they are open to everyone.
Speaker Coach
Listens to a rehearsal and reports on pacing, pitch, filler words and reading straight from the slide, then shows a summary with recommendations. It currently understands English only.
Cameo
Places a live camera feed on a slide, where it can be styled, resized and animated like a picture. It is for Microsoft 365 subscribers on Windows, macOS and the web.
Co-authoring
Several people can edit a presentation saved to OneDrive or SharePoint at once. Indicators show which slide each person is on, and changes that do not conflict are merged automatically.
Templates
Microsoft offers thousands of customizable templates as starting points for a slide show. The free plan includes a basic set of templates, fonts, icons and stickers.

Visme

Templates for many content types
The template library covers more than 50 content types, including presentations, infographics, reports, proposals and social graphics. Premium templates need a paid plan.
AI Designer and AI tools
AI Designer turns a text prompt into a draft design, alongside an AI writer, image generator and image filters. Each use spends credits: 10 a month on Basic, 200 on Starter and 500 on Pro.
Brand Kit and Brand Wizard
Brand fonts, colors and logos are stored in a Brand Kit and applied to projects. The Brand Wizard builds one from a website URL. The full Brand Kit starts at the Pro plan.
Animation and interactivity
Slides can include animated elements, hover effects, clickable menus and hotspots. Custom animation, the full animation timeline and video and audio hotspots are Pro features.
Charts and data widgets
Statistics and figures can be shown as charts, graphs, maps and data widgets inside any project. The free plan has a limited set.
Collaboration and recording
Comments, annotation and live editing are on every plan. The Recording Studio captures a narrated presentation: up to 3 minutes on Basic and 45 minutes on paid plans.
