Worth knowing
Moodflow
- There is no web or desktop version, and the App Store listing is for iPhone only.
- The site lists no Plus prices; the App Store shows $3.49, $9.99 and $14.99 purchases without saying what period each covers.
- The Google Drive backup file is not separately encrypted, and only the 4 most recent backups are kept.
- Because entries live on the device, the vendor cannot restore them if the phone is lost without a backup.
Moodistory
- There is no web or desktop version: the apps are for iPhone and Android, plus an Apple Watch app.
- The vendor publishes no price list; the US App Store shows Premium purchases from $2.99 to $39.99 without billing periods.
- The vendor's pages do not say which features the free version leaves out.
- Data lives only on the device, so moving to a new phone depends on a backup you make yourself.
Key features
Moodflow
- One-tap check-ins
- Rate the day from 1 to 5 and pick the emotions you felt, then optionally add the activities you did and a note. Several entries can be made in one day.
- Insights and correlations
- Charts break mood down by activity, social interaction and life factor, and rank how relationships and habits correlate with it over any time window.
- Daily, gratitude and symptom journals
- The daily journal takes free writing with photos and places, the gratitude journal gives a daily prompt, and the symptom journal logs symptoms and triggers.
- Calendar and year views
- Each day takes a color from its mood. Months can be shown in ring, gradient or average styles, and a year grid shows one square per day.
- Routines and 28-day challenges
- A routine planner tracks routines step by step, and 28-day challenges at several difficulty levels are meant to build simple habits.
- On-device storage and backups
- Entries stay on the phone and are not sent to the vendor. An optional backup goes to a hidden folder in your own Google Drive, and Plus backs up entry photos to the vendor's cloud.
Moodistory
- Entries without typing
- Swipe to set a mood and tap icons from more than 180 events in 10 categories. Notes, photos and a location can be added, and a day can hold as many entries as you like.
- Customizable mood scale
- The rating scale can be set anywhere from 2 to 11 points, and an odd-numbered scale leaves room for a neutral mood. Events, colors and the app icon can be changed too.
- Year in Pixels calendar
- A color-coded calendar gives yearly, monthly and daily views, and you can drill down from a year to a single entry to see what was behind a mood.
- Mood analysis
- An analysis view shows which events go with good or bad moods, how mood moves across an average day and which weekday is usually best. On iOS it can read Apple Health data such as sleep.
- PDF, CSV export and CSV import
- Entries export to a printable PDF that is built on the device, or to CSV. Mood data from other apps, Excel or Google Sheets can be imported as CSV.
- On-device storage, lock and backups
- Data is stored only on the phone and can be locked with face, fingerprint or code. Backups are a manual zip file, or iCloud on iOS and Google Drive on Android.
