Value for money
CCreator is $19 a month billed yearly, for 24 hours of voice generation a year with commercial rights. That's around what this category charges. Watch the meter, though: every render uses generation time, edits included, so an hour of finished audio can take more.
CPremium is $139 a year or $29 a month, a little dearer than NaturalReader's Plus. For voiceovers you'd want Studio instead: $100 a year with commercial rights, which the listing says buys about 24 hours of voiceover. Fair either way, and pay yearly if you pay at all.
Free plan and trial
CA free trial with 10 minutes of voice generation and 10 of transcription, and its own page says no card is needed. It never runs out, but nothing can be downloaded until you pay, so nothing leaves the studio, commercial or not.
CThe free plan never ends, but it's 10 robotic-sounding voices at up to 1.5x. Natural voices, scanning and the AI tools are Premium, whose trial charges the yearly plan on day 3. Studio's free plan has no commercial rights, so it's no use for voiceovers.
Features
C200+ voices with emphasis, pronunciation and pace controls, dubbing into 20+ languages, a voice changer, transcription and an API. The gap is cloning: it isn't self-serve, only Enterprise through Murf's team, and broadcasting rights are Enterprise-only too.
B1,000+ natural voices in 60+ languages, up to 5x speed, Scan & Listen, AI summaries, chats and podcasts, voice typing and a voice assistant. As a reader it covers the whole job. Voiceovers and cloning live in Studio and the API, sold separately.
Ease of use
CNo store rating on record. It's a web studio where you write the script, pick voices and tune each line, with video and music on the same project. Not hard, but there's a bit to learn, and generation time to keep an eye on.
B4.66 from 526,597 App Store ratings, just short of an A. Open a PDF or a web page and press play. Nobody needs a manual for that.
Platforms and integrations
BWeb only, but with add-ons for Canva, Google Slides, PowerPoint, Adobe Captivate and Adobe Audition, plus a pay-as-you-go API. No desktop or phone app, so a B is the top.
AiPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, Windows and the web, Chrome and Edge extensions, imports from Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive, and an API. Wherever you read, it's there.

Who each one suits

Murf

  • E-learning and corporate training voiceovers
  • Narrating slide decks in Google Slides or PowerPoint
  • Developers who want a pay-as-you-go speech API

Speechify

  • Students and professionals who would rather listen than read
  • People with reading difficulties or eye strain
  • Listening to long PDFs and articles on the move

Worth knowing

Murf

  • The free trial gives 10 minutes of voice generation once, and nothing can be downloaded until you pay.
  • Voice cloning is not self-serve: it is available only on Enterprise, through Murf's team. Broadcasting rights are Enterprise-only too.
  • The API is billed separately by usage: $0.01 per 1,000 characters with Falcon and $0.03 with Gen2, after $10 of free credit.
  • Voice generation time is used every time audio is rendered, edits included; unused monthly time carries forward to the next month.

Speechify

  • The free plan is limited to 10 robotic-sounding voices at up to 1.5x speed; natural voices, scanning and the AI features need Premium.
  • Voiceovers for publishing need Speechify Studio, a separate plan: free with 600 credits and no commercial rights, or $100 or $300 a year with commercial rights.
  • Studio credits are spent per second: 1 for voiceover, 3 for dubbing and 30 for avatars, so $100 a year buys about 24 hours of voiceover.
  • Cloned voices need the voice owner to pass Speechify's verification or a written business agreement; users must be 18, and politicians' and deceased people's voices are barred.
