Todoist comes first because it reaches from one person to a shared team workspace, and its iPhone and iPad app has about 129,000 ratings, nearly three times as many as TickTick's. TickTick costs less and does more for one person. Microsoft To Do is third as the complete free option. If you use only Apple devices and would rather buy once than subscribe, look at Things 3, which is outside the three only because it runs nowhere else.

TickTick runs on the same devices as Todoist and adds a habit tracker and a Pomodoro timer, which Todoist's listing does not have. Premium is $49.99 a year, less than Todoist's yearly price, and its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.9 from about 46,000 ratings. It is second because it is built around one person and shared lists, with no team workspace, and its pricing page shows Premium only as an annual plan. The free plan stops at 9 lists and 99 tasks per list.

It runs on the web, Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, and its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.7 from about 268,000 ratings. It is third because it does less than the two above. There is no Linux app, you need a Microsoft account to sign in, and lists can be shared only between personal Microsoft accounts or within one workplace or school.
