The report card
Best for private notes in one file on a Windows PC
AllMyNotes Organizer is a Windows program that keeps notes, passwords, contacts and diaries in a tree of folders inside one file on your PC, with no cloud and no account. Lite is free for good, and Deluxe is $34.00 once. It runs on Windows only, with no phone app and no sync, Lite leaves out encryption, images and backups, and the next major version costs half price again.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Deluxe is $34 once, for one person on any number of PCs, where note apps here sit at $6 a month in the middle, so it pays for itself inside six months and the licence doesn't expire. The catch is upgrades: a later major version costs half price. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The Lite Edition never expires, takes unlimited notes and folders and may be used at work. But the list it leaves out is long and central: encryption, images, file attachments, tables, alarms, the recycle bin and automatic backups. |
| Features | C | The basics for a desk: a free-form tree of folders, search that filters as you type, a rich text editor, and in Deluxe passwords on the file or single folders, alarms and scheduled backups. The gap is the modern one. There's no cloud sync, so a second PC means copying the file across. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, but there's nothing to set up: it's a program you install and use, with no account to make, and a portable version runs straight off a USB drive. |
| Platforms and integrations | D | One operating system: Windows. The FAQ suggests Wine-style layers for Mac and Linux and remote desktop tools for phones, which says it all. No mobile apps, no web version and nothing it connects to. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who AllMyNotes Organizer is for
- Fits if you want notes on one Windows PC that never touch the cloud
- Works for people who'd rather pay $34.00 once than subscribe
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you're on a Mac, Linux or a phone, as it's a Windows program with no mobile apps or web version
- Tight if you're staying on Lite, with no encryption, images, attachments, tables, alarms, recycle bin or automatic backups
- Watch out: there's no cloud sync, so a second PC means copying the .ddb file across by hand
- Watch out: a license covers one major version, and the next costs 50% of the price unless it ships within 12 months of buying
- Watch out: the Compare Editions page shows Deluxe at $23.80 as a limited-time offer with no end date, while the Buy page lists $34.00
Good to know
Good for
- Windows users who want private notes kept off the cloud
- Keeping passwords, contacts and diaries in one protected file
- People who prefer to pay once instead of subscribing
Worth knowing
- Windows only: the FAQ suggests Wine-style layers for Linux and Mac and remote desktop tools for phones, and there are no mobile apps.
- There is no cloud sync; moving data to another computer means copying the .ddb file or following the maker's separate sync instructions.
- The free Lite Edition leaves out encryption, alarms, images, file attachments, tables, the recycle bin and automatic backups.
- A license covers one major version: a later major version costs 50% of the regular price unless it is released within 12 months of purchase.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A notes app at its plainest is text in folders with a search box.
You could make the core of AllMyNotes Organizer for yourself: notes and tasks. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $34, paid once, it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.
What you could make
- Notes and tasks: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for Windows. Something home-made would be a web page.
What this rests on. AllMyNotes Organizer’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
