Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.2

GPA, above 5 of the 14 other webinar and live streaming tools we grade

Crowdcast is a browser-based platform for live webinars, interviews, courses and online summits, aimed at creators, communities and small businesses. Each event gets one page that handles registration, the live session with chat and Q&A, and the replay afterwards. Hosts can sell tickets through Stripe, run multi-session events, and from the Pro plan up multistream the stage to Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and other sites. Plans are priced by live attendees and streaming hours.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Crowdcast, taken from its own pages and our grades.

It's for creators and communities: interviews, classes and online summits, with tickets sold through Stripe.

The report card

Best for creator events, classes and summits

Crowdcast gives each live event one page for sign-up, the session and the replay, which is about as simple as webinars get. It's for creators and communities: interviews, classes and online summits, with tickets sold through Stripe. Lite is $49 a month for 100 live attendees, but it counts streaming hours, and multistreaming starts on Pro.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCLite is $49 a month billed monthly for 100 live attendees and 10 hours, right at the category's middle. Annual billing is labelled 30% off, but the listing gives no yearly figure. Against its rivals it sits between WebinarJam's Starter and Demio's Growth.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan, but a 14-day free trial with all features, limited to 10 live attendees and 60-minute sessions. The listing doesn't say whether it wants a card.
FeaturesCRegistration, the live room, chat, Q&A, replays, tickets, multi-session events and RTMP input. The gaps: no automated webinars on record, multistreaming and captions start on Pro, and sessions stop at 2 hours on Lite.
Ease of useCNo App Store rating on record. One page per event keeps it simple, but you still set up tickets and sessions and keep an eye on streaming hours.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb only, with no desktop or phone app listed. It connects to Stripe and Zapier, streams to Facebook, YouTube and Twitch, and takes feeds from OBS, Wirecast or Ecamm.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

  • Handy when you sell tickets to a live course or an online summit

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Crowdcast you would be making live video to hundreds of people at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It costs $588 a year.

What you could not

  • Live video to hundreds of people at once.
  • One live stream sent to several platforms at once.
  • Selling tickets and checking them at the door.
  • It plugs into other products, Stripe, Zapier and Facebook among them.
  • People on the other end: live sessions. No app builder makes those.

What this rests on. Crowdcast’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
