Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 92 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade

Do.List is a personal to-do app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch that replaces due dates with three priority lists: Today, Tomorrow and Later. Everything that is not urgent goes into Life Lists, a set of more than 30 ready-made lists for groceries, packing, books to read and similar, plus lists the user creates. The app is free with no ads, needs no account, and stores data on the device with iCloud sync and backup.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Do.List, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Anyone who schedules tasks to a time should look elsewhere.

The report card

Best for sorting tasks into Today, Tomorrow and Later

Do.List swaps due dates for three lists, Today, Tomorrow and Later, plus ready-made Life Lists for groceries and books to read. It's free, with no ads and no account. But it runs only on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, due dates are confined to one separate list, and its own FAQ says use on more than one device isn't supported while the App Store says it syncs. Anyone who schedules tasks to a time should look elsewhere.

ToolGPA report cardDo.ListGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAFree, with no in-app purchases on the App Store listing and no paid plan behind it, in a category where the middle plan is $3.99 a month. There's simply nothing to weigh up.
Free plan and trialAThe complete app is free: the three main lists, Life Lists, reminders, iCloud sync and backup. No ads, no account, and nothing held back for a paid tier later.
FeaturesCThe basics, built on three priority lists you reorder by dragging, 30-odd ready-made Life Lists and groceries sorted by store or section. But the listing names the gap itself. Due dates live in one separate list, so the main three can't be scheduled.
Ease of useB4.68 from 2,457 App Store ratings. No account to make, it always opens on Today, and a task only has three places it can go.
Platforms and integrationsDOne operating system: iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The FAQ says there's no Android version yet and there's no web or Windows version. iCloud is the only integration, and the FAQ still claims several devices aren't supported.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Do.List is for

  • Fits if you sort tasks by day and never set due dates anyway
  • Works for iPhone users who want a free to-do app with no ads, with grocery and reading lists alongside

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you use Android or a computer, as it's iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only
  • Not for you if you schedule tasks to a date and time, since only one list takes due dates
  • Too light for projects, as it's three priority lists and a set of simple Life Lists
  • Watch out: the FAQ says use on several devices isn't supported, while the App Store describes iCloud sync

Good to know

Good for

  • People who prioritize by day instead of setting due dates
  • Keeping grocery, packing and reading lists beside to-dos
  • iPhone users who want a free to-do app without ads

Worth knowing

  • It runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only; the vendor's FAQ says there is no Android version yet.
  • Due dates are confined to one list by design, so tasks in Today, Tomorrow and Later cannot be scheduled to a date and time.
  • The App Store marks it as designed for iPad and not verified for macOS, and no web or Windows version is offered.
  • The vendor's FAQ still says use on multiple devices is not supported, while the App Store listing describes iPhone and iPad syncing through iCloud.

Due dates live in one separate list, so the main three can't be scheduled.
From our grade for features
Today, Tomorrow and Later lists
Tasks are prioritized into three lists in place of dated deadlines, reordered by drag and drop, and the app always opens on Today.
Life Lists
More than 30 ready-made lists hold non-urgent items such as groceries, gift ideas, trip packing, movies to see and bucket lists, and custom lists can be added.
List types that behave differently
Grocery and packing lists are checked off, books and movies can be marked as favorites that rise to the top, and the Daily list resets so its tasks can be repeated.
Grocery list with stores and sections
Grocery items can be given a store and a section, and the list can then be sorted by either one.
Reminders for dated tasks
A task that does need a due date goes into a dedicated list that sorts by date and sends a reminder; the other lists stay free of dates.
iCloud sync, backup and Apple Watch
Data is saved on the device, synced between iPhone and iPad through iCloud and backed up from Settings. The Apple Watch app shows the lists and completes tasks.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

92/123

Other to-do list apps it is graded above

Do.List's GPA of 2.8 is higher than 92 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade, and level with 10.

It stands best on free plan and trial (A, above 87 of 123) and worst on platforms and integrations (D, above 0).

Do.List has no paid plan.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.0 out of 4. Nothing scores higher for less, though at least one tool matches that score at a lower price.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

Do.List is free, so making your own would save you nothing.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 92 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade.

What you could make

  • Tasks: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app.

What this rests on. Do.List’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
