Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 2 of the 13 other website and product analytics tools we grade
Fathom Analytics is a privacy-first page counter for websites: it works without cookies and does not track individuals, so it needs no consent banner, and visitor data from the EU is processed in the EU. One dashboard shows popular pages, referrers, campaigns, events and revenue, with scheduled email reports for clients. Every plan has the same features, priced by monthly pageviews across at least 50 sites.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Fathom Analytics, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No rating on record, but there's nothing to set up beyond a small script, or a plugin for WordPress, Ghost and the like.
- 1
Best for cookie-free stats across lots of client sites
Fathom is a no-cookie page counter: one dashboard with pages, referrers, campaigns, events and revenue, plus email reports you can send to clients.
- 2
Paid plans start at $12.50 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $12.50 per month for up to 100k pageviews, billed yearly ($15 billed monthly).
- 3
You can try it first
7-day free trial, card required; Fathom emails you before billing starts
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
No cookies or consent banner
Counts visits without cookies and anonymizes data with hashes and salts, so the vendor says no analytics consent banner is needed. EU visitor data stays in the EU.
- 6
Single-page dashboard
Pages, referrers, countries, devices and UTM campaigns on one page, in real time, with saved filtered views and milestones marked on the chart.
- 7
Events and revenue
Tracks sign-ups, form submissions and purchases as events, with a value and currency so sales totals show beside counts.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 2 of 13

The report card
Best for cookie-free stats across lots of client sites
Fathom is a no-cookie page counter: one dashboard with pages, referrers, campaigns, events and revenue, plus email reports you can send to clients. Every plan has every feature and covers 50 sites. There's no free plan, though, and the 7-day trial wants your card up front.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | $12.50 a month billed yearly ($15 monthly) covers up to 100k pageviews, which fits a 10,000-visitor site, across 50 sites. That's inside the cheapest quarter of what this category charges, with every feature on every plan. |
| Free plan and trial | D | No free plan. The 7-day trial needs a card and the plan renews by itself, though Fathom emails you before billing starts. A week is short to judge traffic stats. |
| Features | C | Pages, referrers, countries, campaigns, events with revenue, Search Console terms and client email reports. It does the page counting job fully, but it's a smaller job than the suites: no recordings, funnels or visitor-level data on record. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, but there's nothing to set up beyond a small script, or a plugin for WordPress, Ghost and the like. One page shows everything. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, no desktop or phone app. It works with WordPress, Ghost, Webflow, Next.js and Nuxt, pulls in Search Console and old Google Analytics data, and has an API. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Fathom Analytics is for

- Handy when you want stats without a cookie banner
- Good for bloggers and small businesses leaving Google Analytics
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to try it without handing over a card
- Tight if you track lots of custom events, as they eat into your pageview allowance
- Not for you if you want to host your analytics yourself, which Fathom doesn't offer
Good to know
Good for

- Custom events count against the monthly pageview allowance, shared across all your sites.
- Fathom is hosted only and cannot be self-hosted.
- Extra sites beyond those included cost $10 a month or $100 a year per pack of 50.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Fathom Analytics you could make: reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 2 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 7 of the 13 other website and product analytics tools grade higher. It costs $150 a year.
What you could make
- Reports: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- A tracking script and a database that counts every visit.
- It plugs into other products, WordPress, Ghost and Webflow among them, and has an API.
What this rests on. Fathom Analytics’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
