Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.0
GPA, above 2 of the 51 other email apps we grade
Gmelius adds shared inboxes, shared labels, assignments and internal notes to Gmail and Google Workspace through a browser extension. Its current pitch centers on AI: Meli, an assistant that drafts replies and sorts mail, and agents that triage incoming email and carry out follow-on steps in connected apps. Pricing is per user with monthly caps on conversations and rule executions, and there is no free plan.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Gmelius, taken from its own pages and our grades.
The team stays in the Gmail they already know, but someone has to set up shared inboxes, labels, assignment rules, SLAs and agents first.
- 1
Best for shared inboxes and AI agents inside Gmail
Gmelius puts shared inboxes inside Gmail, so your team handles support@ from their own inbox, with assignments, notes and shared labels, and Meli drafts replies while agents sort incoming mail and act in your CRM.
- 2
Paid plans start at $19 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $19 per user / month, billed yearly.
- 3
You can try it first
7-day free trial of the Growth plan on sign-up; the account is suspended afterwards unless a plan is paid for
- 4
It runs on Web
Web, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Shared inboxes in Gmail
Group addresses are handled from each person's own Gmail, with assignments, collision detection, shared drafts, team read statuses, tags, and notes with @mentions on a thread.
- 6
Meli assistant
Drafts email replies for review, sorts and classifies incoming mail, schedules meetings and follows up. Drafts land in the inbox and nothing is sent without approval.
- 7
AI agents
An agent is a standing instruction for one job: it reads incoming mail, acts in connected apps such as a CRM, logs each step, and hands off to a person when its confidence is low.
- 8
A 2.0 GPA, above 2 of 51
That is against the other email apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Gmelius you would be making one mailbox that several people work at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for shared inboxes and AI agents inside Gmail
Gmelius puts shared inboxes inside Gmail, so your team handles support@ from their own inbox, with assignments, notes and shared labels, and Meli drafts replies while agents sort incoming mail and act in your CRM. It only works with Gmail, there's no free plan after the 7-day trial, the $19 plan doesn't include shared inboxes, which start at $25, rule runs are capped, and phones get a web app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | The thing most people come for, shared inboxes and labels, starts on Growth at $25 a user a month billed yearly, or $33 monthly, which is where the dearest tenth of this category begins. The $19 Meli plan is the AI assistant alone, 5 users max, no automation rules. Pro is $40. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan. You get 7 days of the Growth plan when you sign up, and then the account is suspended unless you pay. Every member of a team has to be on the same plan, too. |
| Features | C | The team-inbox job is done fully: group addresses from each person's own Gmail, assignments, collision detection, shared drafts, notes, round-robin rules, SLAs, analytics, and agents that act in a CRM. But it's an extension on Gmail rather than a mail app, and conversations and rule runs are capped monthly. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. The team stays in the Gmail they already know, but someone has to set up shared inboxes, labels, assignment rules, SLAs and agents first. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | An extension for Chrome, Brave, Opera and Edge plus the web, with Slack, Trello, HubSpot, Salesforce and Zapier connected and an API from Growth. On phones and tablets it's a progressive web app, not a native one, and Gmail accounts are the only ones it takes. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Gmelius is for
- Fits if your team runs support@ or ops@ from Gmail and wants to stay there
- Works for managers who need SLA, workload and response-time reports on email, from Growth at $25
Who it is not for
- Skip it if your team is on Outlook, as it only works with Gmail and Google Workspace
- Pricey if you came for shared inboxes, which start on Growth at $25 a user, not on the $19 plan
- Tight if you're a bigger team eyeing Meli, which is capped at 5 users and has no automation rules
- Watch out: there's no free plan, the account is suspended after the 7-day trial, and every member must be on the same plan
- Watch out: Growth caps rule runs at 10,000 a month, and CRM links and webhooks need Pro at $40
Good to know
Good for
- Teams that run support@ or ops@ addresses from Gmail
- Google Workspace teams that want AI agents acting on incoming mail

Worth knowing
- It works only with Gmail and Google Workspace accounts; each user is a Google email account on the subscription.
- There is no free plan, and every member of a team must be on the same plan.
- The $19 Meli plan is capped at 5 users and has no automation rules; shared inboxes and shared labels start at Growth.
- The extension is offered for Chrome, Brave, Opera and Edge. On phones and tablets Gmelius is a progressive web app (PWA).

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Gmelius you would be making one mailbox that several people work at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 43 of the 51 other email apps grade higher. It costs $228 a year.
What you could make
- Templates, kanban boards and reports: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- One mailbox that several people work at once.
- An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
- Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
What this rests on. Gmelius’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
