2.8
GPA, above 25 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade
HabitMinder is a habit tracker and reminder app for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, published by Kodeon. It offers more than 50 pre-defined healthy habits, a session screen for each habit, mini apps for hydration, breathing and focus, and statistics on completion rates and streaks. The app is free to start; Premium, promoted at $9.99 a year on the US App Store, unlocks unlimited habits and advanced stats.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about HabitMinder, taken from its own pages and our grades.
You can pick walking, water or stretching from the ready-made set rather than starting from a blank list.

The report card
Best for health habits with reminders on iPhone and Watch
HabitMinder is a habit tracker for iPhone, Apple Watch and Android with more than 50 ready-made habits and mini apps for hydration, breathing and focus. Premium is promoted at $9.99 a year. But the free habit limit is never stated, the store lists Premium items from $0.99 to $59.99, the Android app was last updated in August 2022 and the Mac listing no longer loads. Android users should look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | The promoted plan is $9.99 a year, about 83 cents a month, against a category whose cheapest quarter starts at $1.99, and there is a one-time Premium at $19.99. Check the upgrade screen, though: the store lists Premium items anywhere from $0.99 to $59.99. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free to start and no ads, with reminders, streaks, widgets and Apple Watch logging. But unlimited habits and the advanced stats are Premium, and the listing never says how many habits free allows, so you'll find the wall by walking into it. |
| Features | B | More than 50 ready-made habits, a session screen per habit with mini apps for hydration, breathing and focus, completion rates and streaks with calendar and year views, Apple Health as a source, pause and vacation mode, and grouping by time of day. Advanced stats are Premium. |
| Ease of use | B | 4.61 on the App Store from about 5,900 ratings, under the 4.7 an A needs. You can pick walking, water or stretching from the ready-made set rather than starting from a blank list. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Phones and tablets: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, with no web version, and the Mac listing the website links to no longer loads. The Android app was last updated in August 2022, so really this is an Apple app with an Android version left behind. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who HabitMinder is for
- Fits if your habits are health ones, like steps, water, breathing and sleep, on an iPhone
- Works for people who want to log habits from an Apple Watch
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you're on Android, where the app was last updated in August 2022
- Not for you if you want a Mac or web version: the Mac listing no longer loads and there's no web app
- Tight if you're staying free, since the free habit limit isn't stated and unlimited habits and advanced stats are Premium
- Watch out: the App Store lists Premium items from $0.99 to $59.99, so the price in the app may not be $9.99
Good to know
Good for
- Health habits such as steps, hydration, breathing and sleep
- Apple Watch owners who want to log habits from the wrist
- People who would rather start from ready-made habit ideas
Worth knowing
- The App Store listing says Premium unlocks unlimited habits and advanced stats but does not state how many habits the free version allows.
- The US App Store lists Premium items at prices from $0.99 to $59.99, so the amount shown in the app may differ from the $9.99 yearly plan.
- The Android app was last updated on Aug 26, 2022, according to its Google Play listing, which gives in-app prices of $2.99 to $19.99 per item.
- The website links to a Mac App Store version, but that listing no longer loads on the US store.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A habit tracker at its plainest is a list of habits, a tick for each day and a count of the streak.
You could make the core of HabitMinder for yourself: habit tracking and goals. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $9.99 a year it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.
What you could make
- Habit tracking and goals: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app, widgets, Siri and Shortcuts.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. HabitMinder’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
