Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.2

GPA, above 9 of the 51 other email apps we grade

Hiver is a customer service platform sold in two forms. Hiver in Gmail is a Chrome extension that adds shared inboxes, assignments and automations inside Gmail. Hiver Omni is a standalone workspace that brings email, live chat, Slack, voice, WhatsApp and social channels into one queue. Both include AI agents and an AI copilot, and both are priced per user on the same three plans.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Hiver, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for a help desk your team runs from Gmail

Hiver comes two ways: a Chrome extension that adds shared inboxes and assignments to the Gmail your team already has open, and Hiver Omni, a standalone help desk with email, chat, Slack, voice and WhatsApp in one queue.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $25 a month for each person

As its pricing page puts it: $25 per user / month, billed annually ($35 billed monthly).

  3. 3

    You can try it first

7-day free trial of the Elite plan, no credit card required

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

Web, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.

  5. 5

    Shared inbox and ticketing

Team addresses such as support@ become shared inboxes where every conversation has a clear owner, tags, private notes and a full history, and any request can be logged as a ticket.

  6. 6

    Inside Gmail or standalone

Hiver in Gmail is a Chrome extension that works on top of a Gmail or Google Workspace account. Hiver Omni works with Gmail, Outlook and other providers and adds chat, Slack and voice.

  7. 7

    AI Agents

AI agents triage and resolve requests, look up orders or update records in connected systems, and pause for approval on actions marked sensitive. They are listed on all plans.

  8. 8

    A 2.2 GPA, above 9 of 51

That is against the other email apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Hiver you would be making one mailbox that several people work at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for a help desk your team runs from Gmail

Hiver comes two ways: a Chrome extension that adds shared inboxes and assignments to the Gmail your team already has open, and Hiver Omni, a standalone help desk with email, chat, Slack, voice and WhatsApp in one queue. Growth is $25 a user, sold from 2 seats. There's no free plan after the 7-day trial, SLAs and the API wait on Pro at $55, SSO is Elite only, and voice costs $30 a seat more.

ToolGPA report cardHiverGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDGrowth is $25 a user a month billed annually, $35 monthly, which is the start of this category's dearest tenth and three times its $8 middle, from 2 seats up. SLAs, CSAT, the customer portal and the API all wait for Pro at $55, and voice on Omni is another $30 a seat.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan. The trial is 7 days of the Elite plan with no credit card, and the account is suspended when it ends unless you choose a paid plan.
FeaturesBShared inboxes where every conversation has an owner, tags, private notes and a history, with ticketing, rule-based automations, analytics, AI agents that pause for approval on sensitive actions and a copilot that drafts and summarizes. Omni puts chat, Slack, voice and WhatsApp in the same queue.
Ease of useCNo rating on record. The Gmail extension means no new inbox to learn and 24/7 support comes with Growth, but a team still has shared inboxes, tags, automations and routing to set up, and the AI agents need connecting to your systems.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, a Chrome extension for Gmail, and iPhone and Android apps, with no desktop app. It connects to Slack, Salesforce, Shopify, Jira, Linear, Asana and Notion, and API access starts on Pro. Hiver in Gmail needs a Gmail or Google Workspace account.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Hiver is for

  • Fits if your support team wants to keep working inside Gmail
  • Works for teams whose requests come in by email, chat, Slack and voice and need one queue, on Omni

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you work alone, as every plan starts at 2 seats, then 5, then steps of 5
  • Pricey if you need SLAs, CSAT surveys, the customer portal or the API, which start on Pro at $55 a user
  • Not for you if you want a free plan, because the 7-day trial is all there is and the account is suspended after
  • Watch out: SSO, HIPAA-compliant handling and custom roles are Elite only, at $85 a user
  • Watch out: voice on Hiver Omni is an add-on at $30 per voice seat a month

Good to know

  • All plans start at 2 seats, and seats are added in steps: 2, then 5, then increments of 5.
  • SLAs, CSAT surveys, the customer portal and API access start on Pro; SSO, HIPAA-compliant handling and custom roles are Elite only.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Hiver you would be making one mailbox that several people work at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 33 of the 51 other email apps grade higher. It costs $300 a year.

What you could make

  • Reports: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • One mailbox that several people work at once.
  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Hiver’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
