Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.2
GPA, above 66 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
Jorte is a calendar and personal organizer app for iPhone, iPad and Android from Jorte Inc. in Tokyo. It combines a calendar with to-do lists, a photo diary, event calendars to follow and themes that restyle the whole app, and it links to Google Calendar and the iOS calendar. A free web service, Jorte PF, stores calendars and to-dos in the cloud for use on a computer or with a group. The app is free with ads, and two paid courses, Jorte Plus and Jorte Premium, remove them and add features.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Jorte, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card
Best for a phone calendar that feels like a paper planner
Jorte is a phone calendar laid out like a paper planner, with to-do lists, a photo diary and themes that restyle the app, free with ads. Jorte Plus clears the ads for $3.99 a year, and theme packs are separate purchases unless you pay for Premium at $29.99 a year. Outlook sync is paid and works with Office 365 calendars only, and there's no desktop app, only the Jorte PF web service.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Jorte Plus is $3.99 a year. Not a month, a year, in a category whose middle plan is $6 a month. That clears the ads and adds up to 100 extra calendars, a passcode lock and Outlook sync. Premium is $29.99 a year, mostly for unlimited themes. |
| Free plan and trial | B | The free app carries the calendar views, to-do lists, diary, event calendars, widgets and links to Google Calendar and the iOS calendar. It shows ads, and extra calendars, the passcode lock and Outlook sync are paid. |
| Features | B | The whole job: month, week, day and vertical views, to-dos that sync with Google Tasks, a photo diary with tags, event calendars for sport and holidays, and widgets in 25 sizes. Outlook sync covers Office 365 calendars only, not Outlook.com or Exchange. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, but nothing needs setting up: it's laid out like a paper organizer and links to the calendars your phone already has, so the views are familiar on day one. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | iPhone, iPad and Android, plus the free Jorte PF web service for a computer, linking to Google Calendar, the iOS calendar, Google Tasks, Outlook and Evernote. There's no desktop app and no API. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Jorte is for
- Fits if you're moving off a paper planner and want the same sort of layout
- Works for keeping your schedule, to-do lists and a photo diary in one phone app
Who it is not for
- Skip it if your work calendar is on Exchange, Outlook.com or Office 365 Solo, which the Outlook sync doesn't support
- Not for you if ads in a calendar annoy you and you won't pay the $3.99 a year
- Too light for desk work, since there's no desktop app, only the Jorte PF web service
- Watch out: icon and theme packs are separate in-app purchases unless you pay for Premium at $29.99 a year
- Tight if you're staying free: extra calendars, the passcode lock, Outlook sync and use on several devices are paid
Good to know
Good for
- People moving from a paper planner who want a similar layout
- Keeping a schedule, to-do lists and a photo diary in one app
- Users who like to restyle their calendar with themes and icons
Worth knowing
- The free app shows ads; turning them off requires Jorte Plus or Jorte Premium.
- Outlook sync is a paid feature and covers Office 365 Outlook calendars only. Office 365 Solo, Outlook.com calendars and Exchange servers are not supported.
- Icon and theme packs are separate in-app purchases unless you have Premium, which includes unlimited content.
- There is no desktop app: on a computer, Jorte is used through the Jorte PF web service.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Jorte you could make: calendar, tasks and daily notes. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.2 is higher than 66 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade. It costs $3.99 a year.
What you could make
- Calendar, tasks and daily notes: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Google Tasks among them.
- Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Jorte’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
