Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 2 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade

Kan Do is a personal kanban app for Apple devices. Projects are boards of columns the user defines, grouped into Spaces, and each card opens into a task with a rich notes editor, subtasks, dates and reminders. It is sold as a single $2.99 App Store purchase with no account, subscription or in-app purchases, and data stays on the device and in the user's own iCloud.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Kan Do, taken from its own pages and our grades.

It's Apple only, with no web or Windows version, so anyone who works with others or off Apple should look elsewhere.

The report card

Best for personal kanban on Apple devices for $2.99

Kan Do is a kanban app for one person on Apple devices, at $2.99 once with no subscription, account or in-app purchases. There's no free version or trial to check it first, boards can't be shared with anyone, and it won't write tasks to the Calendar app. It's Apple only, with no web or Windows version, so anyone who works with others or off Apple should look elsewhere.

ToolGPA report cardKan DoGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyA$2.99 once, covering Mac, iPhone, iPad, Vision Pro, Apple TV and Apple Watch, with no subscription and no in-app purchases. A year on this category's middle subscription is about $48.
Free plan and trialFNothing is free. It's a paid download with no free version and no trial, so you hand over the $2.99 before you've seen a single board. Small money, but you are buying it blind.
FeaturesCBoards with your own columns, Spaces, nested tags, smart lists, a Calendar view, repeats and reminders that nag until done. The listing names the gaps, though: boards can't be shared with anyone, and it won't write your tasks into the Calendar app.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and the work here is building the thing: Spaces, projects and the columns of every board are yours to define before it's useful. There's no account to make at least, and sync runs through your own iCloud.
Platforms and integrationsCOne family of devices. The FAQ says there is no web or Windows version, so Apple is the whole story. Inside it there's Siri, Shortcuts and, on the Mac, an MCP helper for assistants like Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Kan Do is for

  • Fits if you want kanban boards for your own work on a Mac, iPhone and iPad
  • Works for people who want to pay $2.99 once rather than subscribe

Who it is not for

  • Too light for teams, because boards can't be shared and sync only runs between your own devices
  • Not for you if you want to try before you buy, as there's no free version or trial
  • Skip it if you use Windows, Android or a browser, since it's Apple only
  • Watch out: it won't write tasks into the Calendar app, and Apple Reminders is the only app it imports from

Good to know

Good for

  • One person running kanban boards across Apple devices
  • Buyers who want a low one-time price and no account
  • People who let an AI assistant manage tasks through MCP

Worth knowing

  • Apple platforms only: the FAQ says there is no web or Windows version.
  • Boards cannot be shared with another person; sync runs only between one user's devices under a single Apple Account.
  • It is a paid download with no free version or trial.
  • Kan Do does not write tasks to the Calendar app, and Apple Reminders is the only app it imports from directly.

Kan Do's GPA of 2.0 is higher than 2 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade, and level with 3.

It stands best on value for money (A, above 69 of 123) and worst on free plan and trial (F, above 0).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Kan Do you could make: tasks, kanban boards and calendar. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 118 of the 123 other to-do list apps grade higher. It costs $2.99, paid once.

What you could make

  • Tasks, kanban boards and calendar: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Apps for macOS and iOS that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, iCloud, Apple Reminders and Siri among them.
  • Hooks into the device itself: Siri and Shortcuts.

What this rests on. Kan Do’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
