The report card
Best for creators growing a big list for free
Kit is email for creators, and its free plan is the most generous in this category: up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited broadcasts, landing pages and forms. You can even sell products and paid newsletters without a plan fee. The day you want a welcome sequence or any automation, though, it's $33 a month, well over double what most rivals start at.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Creator is $33 a month for 1,000 subscribers on yearly billing, or $39 monthly, about two and a half times the middle of this category, and it's the plan you need for automations and sequences. Pro is $66, or $50 for the first year if you sign up by November 7, 2026. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Up to 10,000 subscribers, unlimited broadcasts, landing pages and forms, and sales of digital products and paid newsletters, all free. That's far more room than any other free plan here. What's missing is automations and sequences, and it's 1 user with Kit branding. |
| Features | B | Visual automations, sequences, landing pages, a newsletter site, tags, segments, paid newsletters, products and a recommendation network. It covers a creator's whole email job. Each sale costs 3.5% plus 30 cents, and Paid Recommendations carry a 23.5% fee. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. It's a web app where you build the forms, pages and automations yourself, so expect some setting up before it runs on its own. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with Shopify, Wix, Fourthwall, Facebook and SparkLoop, 100+ apps on Creator, and an API. No desktop or phone app is listed. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who it is not for
- Skip it if you need a welcome series on the free plan, as automations start at $33 a month
- Pricey if you sell a lot, since every sale costs 3.5% plus 30 cents
- Tight if two of you share the free account, which allows 1 user

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Kit you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $396 a year.
What you could make
- Paid newsletters and forms: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- Email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox.
- It plugs into other products, Shopify, Wix and Fourthwall among them, and has an API.
- People on the other end: coaches. No app builder makes those.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Kit’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
