Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 8 of the 17 other file storage and sync services we grade

Koofr is a cloud storage service from a Slovenian company that keeps files in data centers in the European Union. Paid accounts can also connect Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive, so that files from every account are browsed and searched in one place. It syncs folders on Windows, macOS and Linux, backs up phone photos and videos, and includes Koofr Vault, an open source client-side encrypted folder, on every plan.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Koofr, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for a small EU plan that ties your other clouds in

Koofr is EU-hosted storage whose paid accounts can plug in Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive, so you browse and search them in one place, from €0.50 a month for 10 GB extra.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at about $0.56 a month

As its pricing page puts it: €0.50 per month for 10 GB extra, billed yearly, incl. 22% VAT.

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Free forever: 10 GB with two-way sync, mobile media backup, file versioning and 1 Vault Safe Box. Capped at 10 public links that expire after 14 days, with 7 days of deleted file retention.

  4. 4

    It runs on 6 platforms

Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.

  5. 5

    Connected clouds and one search

Paid plans connect Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive accounts so their files can be browsed and searched next to Koofr storage. The limit runs from 9 to 30 connections, depending on the tier.

  6. 6

    Two-way sync and network drive

Desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux sync chosen folders in both directions and can map Koofr as a network drive. Storage can also be reached over WebDAV and with rclone.

  7. 7

    Koofr Vault

An open source, client-side encrypted folder with zero-knowledge keys, included on every plan. It is used through a web app and iOS and Android apps, and is compatible with rclone.

  8. 8

    A 2.8 GPA, above 8 of 17

That is against the other file storage and sync services we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Koofr you would be making files kept in step across devices without losing one. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for a small EU plan that ties your other clouds in

Koofr is EU-hosted storage whose paid accounts can plug in Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive, so you browse and search them in one place, from €0.50 a month for 10 GB extra. Only files in the Vault are encrypted on your device, the Vault won't open in the desktop app, local folders need 250 GB and up, and billing is yearly only.

ToolGPA report cardKoofrGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBNobody else here sells so small: €0.50 a month for 10 GB extra, €2 for 100 GB, inside the cheapest quarter of a category that starts at $3.99. Space per euro at the top end is another story, with 1 TB at €10, past the $9.99 the dearest tenth starts at. VAT is included and billing is yearly.
Free plan and trialC10 GB free for good, with two-way sync, phone photo backup and file versions. The caps bite quickly though: 10 public links at a time, each dead after 14 days, 7 days of deleted-file retention, no external clouds and no Office for the web.
FeaturesCThe basics, plus connected clouds and Office editing in the browser. The listing names the gaps, and two matter: local folders in the desktop app only start at the Suitcase tier, 250 GB and up, and Koofr Vault, the only client-side encrypted part, can't be opened in the desktop app at all.
Ease of useBNo store rating on record, but nothing to configure: install the desktop app, pick the folders to sync both ways, and Koofr can sit in the file explorer as a network drive. No server, no keys to juggle.
Platforms and integrationsAWeb, Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, which is the full set. On top of that it connects Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Microsoft Office, and works over WebDAV and with rclone.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Koofr is for

  • Fits if you only need a little more space, since paid plans start at 10 GB extra
  • Works for people whose files are scattered across Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want everything encrypted on your device, as only files in the Vault are, and it won't open in the desktop app
  • Not for you if you'd rather pay month by month, since only yearly subscriptions are sold
  • Pricey if you need a lot of room, at €10 a month for 1 TB, with prices in euros and 22% VAT included
  • Tight if you stay free: 10 public links that die after 14 days, no external clouds and no Office for the web
  • Watch out: local folders in the desktop app start at the Suitcase tier, 250 GB for €4 a month

Good to know

Good for

  • People who need a small paid plan: sizes start at 10 GB extra
  • Users who want Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive files in one place

Worth knowing

  • Prices are in euros and include 22% VAT, so the final amount depends on the buyer's country. Only yearly subscriptions are sold.
  • Only files placed in Koofr Vault are client-side encrypted, and the Vault cannot be opened in the desktop app.
  • The free plan cannot connect external clouds or use Office for the web, and its public links expire after 14 days.
  • Local folders in the desktop app start at the Suitcase tier, which begins at 250 GB.
